Maybe everyone else is doing what I'm doing - see what happens at Mangaung. If JZ's dirty laundry doesn't get an airing at all...

I'm seriously struggling with the thought that the ANC top brass might think they can ignore it.
Only the cANCer has all the answers. Any opposing comments or criticism will not be tolerated and will one day be suppressed and gagged by the (Supression of) Information Bill.

Just heard on a radio news bulletin that DA has requested SARS does an audit to see whether JZ paid taxes on the monies received. Chances of happenning?

The Current selection of polictiacl leadership both in ANC and DA are the same. The question should be the selection and voting of goverment politocal leadership. Say the president should be done by the citizen not political party. The ANC selection leadeship guideline is one of the impresive but is not applied to the let. Google " the eye of the needle by ANC" it details who should be selected as leaders. Of the 86 ANC leadersship exclude those in Provinces does not qualify to go through the eye of the needle. Here are some of the creteria in the eye of the needle.
        Some Criteria of leadership selection
Every member of the ANC has the right to vote for, and be elected into, leadership positions. Like all rights, this goes along with the obligation to understand and pursue the objectives of the ANC. Further, in order to ensure that leaders are elected for their track record in serving the people, qualifications apply in relation to leadership positions: to be on the BEC a member should have been in the ANC for at least a year; for the REC it’s 2 years; 3 years for the PEC and for the NEC it’s 5 years
There are no ready-made leaders. Leaders evolve out of battles for social transformation. In these battles, cadres will stumble and some will fall. But the abiding quality of leadership is to learn from mistakes, to appreciate one’s weaknesses and correct them
A leader should lead by example. He should be above reproach in his political and social conduct — as defined by our revolutionary morality. Through force of example, he should act as a role model to ANC members and non-members alike. Leading a life that reflects commitment to the strategic goals of the NDR includes not only being free of corrupt practices; it also means actively fighting against corruption.
An individual with qualities of leadership does not seek to gain popularity by undermining those in positions of responsibility. Where such a member has a view on how to improve things or correct mistakes, she should state those views in constitutional structures and seek to win others to her own thinking. She should assist the movement as a whole to improve its work, and not stand aside to claim perfection out of inactivity
A leader should constantly seek to improve his capacity to serve the people; he should strive to be in touch with the people all the time, listen to their views and learn from them. He should be accessible and flexible; and not arrogate to himself the status of being the source of all wisdom.
A leader should win the confidence of the people in her day-to-day work. Where the situation demands, she should be firm; and have the courage to explain and seek to convince others of the correctness of decisions taken by constitutional structures even if such decisions are unpopular. She should not seek to gain cheap popularity by avoiding difficult issues, making false promises or merely pandering to popular sentiment
        Part of leadership selection Process
Selecting candidates and ultimately electing leaders is not like the “natural selection” of evolution where things develop by chance. It must be a conscious and well-considered act on the part of each ANC member. But how should this be done? What issues should you, the member, take into account when the nomination and election process unfolds
Nominations take place at constitutional structures such as branch AGM’s and regional, provincial and national conferences. Individual members nominate their candidates at these meetings on the basis of an assessment of candidates’ qualities and performance. However, declaration of support for a person, or of a willingness to stand, does not guarantee that one would be a candidate. You become a candidate after the proposal has been accepted by a branch or any other relevant constitutional structure.

Only a corrupt government will choose a crook as a president.
Given the ANC's Criteria of leadership selection we can be assured that this will never happen.

Seems Kgalema wants the top spot or nothing at all. He's withdrawn from the race for Deputy President.

The ANC has a lot of damage control to do. Maybe something is brewing behind the scenes?

Well we are stuck with JZ for the next seven years unless the DA's 'No Confidence Debate' is supported by the disedent ANC members and they squeak a majority, maybe that is his game plan if he ever had one?

That’s the elective conference done! I think that democracy prevailed and the most popular candidate took the prize. One must never forget that in our representative democracy one votes for a party and not for a person and that party is then free to choose their leader according to how their party elective conference works. That process saw the re-election of President Zuma
President Zuma may be unpopular with the middle upper class but it’s apparent that the vast majority of people at the grassroots level love him. I suppose one simply needs to respect this.

Justice Malala: How Motlanthe lost Mangaung.

I think he's exactly on point. In the run-up to Mangaung on more than one occassion I thought - "the bugger needs to get off the fence now." As Machiavelli advises in The Prince, in a contest for power you need to choose a side and quickly. It matters less to choose the winning side than taking too long to choose. For even once your opponent has won he must approach you and make the peace.

Justice Malala also frames very well my greatest concern over the JZ victory:

Never underestimate your opponent. Jacob Zuma is not to be trifled with. He is wily, strategic, scheming and, most importantly, he is acutely aware that he must preserve and protect himself at all times - failing to do so could see him land up in front of a court of law on corruption or other charges. He will not swat off a challenge. He will crush it.
JZ's biggest challenge still lies ahead of him - finding a viable exit strategy from the top spot. Just what might he do to secure one?

Final thought for now - Some might be disappointed that JZ has won another term at the helm, but I doubt any of them are anywhere near as disappointed as Juju.
                              Participation is voluntary.
