Jon Scieszka (SHEH-ska: which phonetically resembles the Polish word for "path," ścieżka) was born September 8, 1954 in Flint, Michigan and is an American author of children's literature, best known for his collaborations with illustrator Lane Smith. He is also a nationally recognized reading advocate, and the founder of Guys Read – a web-based literacy program for boys whose mission is "to help boys become self-motivated, lifelong readers."
