With the hoo-hah surrounding Lance Armstrong, the ridiculous income of footballers, rugby players, athletes, tennis players, etc, etc, maybe it is now time to revert to amateur sport with all TV revenues going to charity.

You have my vote Garf.
Excellence is not a skill; its an attitude...
Not sure it'll stop the problem, though.
And it's probably worth pointing out that there's ways to be an amateur and still get the money.

Yes Dave, unfortunately I agree with you - it was a Utopian call.
Its sad that, as in everything else, those who pay the piper call the tune.
Sportsmanship used to be something to aspire to, now sportsmen are more often an embarrassment.

The only way to stop the BS is for the paying public to stop buying tickets and attending games. I have given up on soccer 20 years ago. Yes, I even played the game socially for 2 seasons. The acting, game fixing, FIFA... I am just not interested any more.
As soon as the money gets too much and the sponsors start running the sport, it spoils everything for everybody.

I used to quite enjoy cricket. Now I cannot remember when last I watched a game. Still watch rugby though, and will enjoy watching the Sharks smash WP this weekend....
And so will I !!! My year will be ruined if WP wins on Saturday. When Province still had Luke Watson I liked them...because they had the IDIOT in their team.
Its going to be a big match on Saturday. Lets hope the best team win (I think that may just be the Sharks) and that there is no "technical issues" such as last week when we were robbed of a sure try.
I also hope that Heineke Meyer will be watching, so that he can see what he missed in the Springbok side. There is a big difference between a kicker and a real flyhalf.

One thing that has change a lot in the "processional" era, is the size of the non player contingent. Kicking coach, backline coach, forwards coach, head coach, physio's, head coach, conditioning coach....
