This stood out to me...Toyota resolves ‘illegal’ strike at Durban factory
by Alexander Parker, 04 October 2012, 15:15 | 0 Comments
TOYOTA on Thursday resolved a strike at its Durban factory that it had described as "unprocedural and illegal" .
This followed more than a day of talks between representatives of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa), staff and management at the vehicle manufacturing plant.
Toyota spokesman Leo Kok said no details of the agreement were available immediately, but that the union, management and all staff had agreed to the terms.
He said the wildcat strike had cost the company 2,428 vehicles and, given that the plant was running at its full current capacity of 17,300 vehicles a month, including its assembly unit, it would have to catch up through overtime and weekend operations, which would be more expensive.
The reason for the strike was not clear, but it appeared the dispute relate to a R3.22-per-hour premium "some skilled workers" were paid.
The undercurrent in saying this is the presumption to having everyone get paid the same amount no matter what they do. Sort of happened in Soviet Union (but skilled people still got more pay even there). The funny thing with all this "socialism" comparison is that the "race policy" is an extreme anti socialist dogma while the redistribution policy is a bit...
Post Office, retailers deliver under cover of darkness
by Alistair Anderson, October 05 2012, 08:55 | 1 Comment(s)
MANY retailers, along with the South African Post Office, are having to make their deliveries under the cover of darkness for fear of violence by striking workers in the truck and freight industry.
The strike involving about 20,000 drivers and related staff has run for more than a week and a half. Talks to end the industrial action remained deadlocked yesterday.
See the guy whom wrote this article is an idiot now the drivers will be attacked at night when they make deliveries because the strikers can read his article... lol
Eskom and Sasol strike will be interesting since that will knock out all the other industry instantaneously and lead to prosperity and higher wages for all.
Strikers dont strike at night, nor the weekend, i noticed yesterday and today there were no strikers and at 4.30pm they pack up and go home, so driving at night should be ok.

I'm expecting a gift from a friend in Ermelo Mpumalanga, It was supposed to have arrived on Monday 1 October 2012, I've been to the post office here in Lenasia, the administrative employee Isaac told me from Monday to Friday that my parcel is still in Ermelo and hasn't left. I then put it to him, 'But you guys use mostly vans, not trucks,' he put it to me, "no, we use mostly trucks, not vans"

Think I had better take my car and not my van when I head to CT on wednesday morning. We really are becoming a banana republic, quite depressing but not unexpected. I have found that lately I have become a bit more of a hardass when it comes to beggers, parking attendants and the like. I am also thinking that I might sell up in a couple of years and move into a more "cash" friendly type business, just looking around at idea's at the moment. But this vat is killing me, then knowing how my hard earned tax is spent kills me a bit more.
Does COSATU or the Government care?
No it's just SNAFU.
Will this change, no.
Just spoke to a driver from a supplier in Benoni and said there were cars turning around on the highway at Jet Park because of the burning truck.
When will the voting public change the government?
Only stress when you can change the outcome!
A rock was thrown at a small truck last week in Cape Town. I think it was in Epping because the guy was sent to Vincent Pallotti hospital. The passenger, a young guy, was struck on the head. He was declared brain dead today and the family will be turning the life support machines off at 6am tomorrow morning.
eish....just some poor guy going about his daily business...
