PnP Smart Shopper....

I think most of us have these stupid unrewarding cards. I spend a great deal of money with PnP but my smart shopper card is just an insult of how little they are prepared to give back. Now I will be honest I expected big things from PnP but when I printed my first slip I was in shock.

Really is this card thing not a scam? A false advertisement or something?

They insist that you get one and then use it but for what exactly?

I use mine and get to buy some goods for free when I have the points.
My wife says by the time Xmas comes she will be able to buy all the goodies for the holidays without spending any of her own money, that's better than a kick in the nuts.

Yes, it is not much, but something. You are not shopping there for the points, are you? So you are getting something for nothing. By actively watching the promos, you can increase the benefits, but that is also a pain, as the voucher printers is forever out of order!

Although I do not have hard evidence, but I got the feeling that PnP's prices crept up after they introduced the smart shopper. I used to shop there 80% of the time, now I hardly ever walk in there as thier prices are generally the same as the local SuperSpar - which is a 10x better shop.

PnP now have your personal details and also knows what you're looking buying and thus can target you with their advertising, which to me is an invasion of privacy. I am since a while ago shop with Checkers and get more value for my money. Funny thing is that the Checkers clients are not as arrogant as those shopping at PnP. PnP lost me as a client and there is no way I will ever sign up for the Dumb shopper card....

We shop selectively at many different places for different goceries. We buy the veg specials at fruit and veg city, we bulk buy meat directly from a slaughter house/butchery and we buy toiletries mostly at clicks. We only use P&P for staples such as bread, eggs and milk etc and their prices are competitive for this. After seeing this thread last night I checked my smart shopper card today and there's over 2000 Rands on it.

Although I do not have hard evidence, but I got the feeling that PnP's prices crept up after they introduced the smart shopper. I used to shop there 80% of the time, now I hardly ever walk in there as thier prices are generally the same as the local SuperSpar - which is a 10x better shop.

Considering that we have high food inflation spurred by increasing fuel prices, it is to be expected that prices would have gone up since the introduction of the shopper card. These loyalty programmes are being introduced by retailers (and also banks) in an effort to keep customers coming back.

Some of these reward are just smoke and mirrors and you end up paying for it any way. FNB's E-Bucks is so low that its almost not worth pursuing. With Absa you actually have to pay a monthly fee to be on their Absa rewards. What does work for me is the Discovery credit card where you actually get real rewards. Depending on your Vitality status you can earn up to 10x the Pick & Pay shopper rewards. You also get cash back on purchases and you get Discovery points on top of that. One Discovery point = R1, which is really worthwhile.

Most possibly prices higher as they spent about 100 million to implement and design the smart shopper card, if memory not fail me...

Privacy means everything to me! I hate those unsolicited cell calls, but I take the opportunity to deal with them (destress)

How do I earn points once I sign up?
Just give your smart shopper card to the cashier at the till before you start putting your purchases through and she will do the rest. For every R1 you spend, we give you 1 smart point. Plus there are ongoing special offers in store and personalised vouchers for you to earn additional smart points even faster. At the end of each purchase, your new smart points will be allocated to your smart shopper account within five days.

I have a feeling that something is wrong here and or at my local PnP if this is correct and I included a print screen from the source than my points don't get credited as they say here?

What does it mean to ‘switch’ my points?

This is the process of turning the points you have earned into a cash value on your smart shopper card. You can do this at any kiosk as long as you have at least 1 000 points in your smart shopper account.
Remember, 1 000 points equals R10 cash back on your card to spend on your next purchase or to donate to charity.

Right now I understand it a bit better. They are not actually rewarding us, this is a data capture process so that they can stock what we need and drop what is not popular thus saving them some real money. I feel like a sucker

I thought "If" I use the card all year round that I would accumulate enough points to help with some “end year” shopping. Now it turns out that the points is worth a bag of coco-pops... if that....
