Don't you feel so much better now

Notice received from Ethekwini Municipality with my electricity bill today:

    Dear Valued Customer

RE: ELECTRICITY PRICE INCREASE - EFFECTIVE 01 JULY 2012

I am happy to announce that Eskom and the Department of Public Enterprises has responded to President Jacob Zuma's call to reduce electricity tariffs in support of economic growth and job creation in South Africa. As a result of this, the original 25.9% increase that Eskom was expecting from its customers has now been reduced to 16%. This reduction is most welcomed and will have instant benefits to business and households. The citizens of Durban can be assured that this reduced increase will be factored into our tariff structures and customers can expect to see lower tariff increases for the next financial year when compared to recent years.

Don't you feel much better about your decreased price increase now?

Gee - that's only an increase of more than twice the official inflation rate. That'll definitely stimulate the economy

And every time I see government ripping me a new one, I always feel hugely comforted by the fact that they originally wanted to rip me a whole lot more than they eventually decided to do

Just think how much money I'm saving
What should I spend it on?
    Another SA economic maths miracle

I think Eskom will be using the reduced increases as a get-out clause when we go into rolling blackouts again because of aging infrastructure and lack of maintenance.

Add that to the increased water tariffs, increased rates and you really feel privileged to live in the City.

Somebody has to pay for the free electricity and bonuses. There is no such thing as a free ride, ultimately somebody has to pay. Besides the free electricity they give away, somebody has to pay for the stolen cables to be replaced and illegal connections, which apparently runs into the billions.

Well, considering the increase in electricity and a rates increase of nearly 17%, I had to let the gardener go as I can no longer afford to keep him.

This is sad as I believe that the more jobs we create, the more people we can keep off the streets and give them hope for the future. Unfortunately my taxes will now go toward the building of Zumaville and into the pockets of corrupt officials.
