Point taken, consider myself Lashed! Kate, I have a profound respect for China becuase of the manufacturing ability. One of my good friends has bought several packaging machines from China at a price that he literally could not get anywhere else in the world! Believe me he tried, he embarked on a one year browsing around for prices exercise. The way in which he was dealt with was also very professional. He's a happy camper. He has now decided that not only will he engage in packaging but that he will also become an agent for the packaging machine. He now also sells the actual machines which he gets from China, he makes 20% profit on each machine, so he's not complaining!!!!“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm." 100% Kevin. The only reason why I hold them in high regard is this. I believe in the profit motive especially when it comes to myself i.e ( I want the highest possible profit margin, but when I shop I expect the retailers to be fiercely competitive to give me the lowest possible price). I have friends who are hawkers i.e. they hire a stall from the city council for R70 per month and by their own admission the only reason they can make a decent profit is becuase they buy clothing and shoes from China for resale.“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm." The vendors at flea markets mostly charge VAT, but are not registered and therefore pocket an additional 14% of your money. There is of course no guarantees and no refunds. If the quality is no good - that's your problem.
The local shopkeeper pays rent, water & lights, UIF, licences, taxes, minimum wage and then hope to have something left at the end of the month. He will also exchange defective goods. No wonder he can not compete!Excellence is not a skill; its an attitude...Comment
