Is it advisable to do this upgrade.

I'll do an install tonight, and come back with a full thread. but for now, I will find out as much detail as possible about the vista upgrade. the main problem they've had with service pack 1 is that a few drivers have caused major issues. the big give away will naturally be an incompatible driver warning. suggested action for this would be to find the latest drivers for that product, or check the microsoft site if that doesn't help.
Overview- this is basically the overview on what has changed, along with the KnowledgeBase (KB) references you'll need if you were using the RTM version.
from what I've gathered, they have increased the efficiency of the networking considerably (boasting a 45% increase in transfer speeds from a vista sp1 machine to other machines), which I think would get a few people a little bit more happier.

quite honestly, I've got my fingers crossed that this will fix my live windows messenger issue I've been having. along with a few speed increases, of course.
all in all, I believe this is where we can begin to find faults in vista. XP was a cock-up before service pack 1, so was vista. we should (I hope) see some changes that will maybe make us look at vista and say "hmmm, I could work with this."
as I said, will download it tonight, and give some feedback tomorrow.
I am waiting in anticipation! Hopefully this will resolve a couple of my issues as well.

My upgrade went fine, and no new issues have sprung up. I didn't really have any before, but at least everything is working with SP1.
well, got home today, clicked the link ,and began the download of vista. peculiarly, vista also popped up in my auto-update, which I thought was highly weird considering it was documented to appear in the auto updates mid April.
THE FILE
amazingly, the 1.2GB download that was originally claimed by certain sources, turns out to be a rather timid 434.5 MB file. Gets a thumbs up from me immediately, since I don't have to bust the cap on it
well, booted up the machine this morning. not too much different really. looks like a slight improvement on memory usage (39% versus the usual 40-45%), but overall, looks like the same vista. no doubt the changes will either stay hidden, or will be felt at the next LAN =P. one thing that does concern me though... does anyone using vista find their HDD light does not stop flicking? usually during bootup it stops for a few seconds, so I know it's plugged onto the motherboard correctly, but it just seems to be going almost constantly once logged in.
