We have ESKOM, and now, as I have warned before, we are getting the Dept of Water Affairs.ETHEKWINI TO IMPLEMENT WATER AND SANITATION INFRASTRUCTURE LEVY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
23 JUNE 2021
To upgrade ageing infrastructure that affects the efficient supply of water and the treatment of sewage effluent, eThekwini Municipality will introduce an infrastructure levy effective from 1 July.
This levy was approved at a Full Council meeting held on 27 May. The infrastructure levy will be charged at an additional R1. 50/Kl for water and R1. 50/Kl for sewerage disposal. The levy will run for three years to raise approximately R1 billion that will be used to upgrade the City’s water and sanitation infrastructure.
The Municipality has experienced an increased number of faults at pump stations and treatment works which has impacted negatively on the delivery of basic water services. These faults are due to ageing infrastructure but can also be attributed to external factors including vandalism, load shedding, and the population expansion in the Municipality.
The implementation of the levy will ensure continued operations and maintenance with increased reliability of the water supply.
It will further ensure both financial viability and infrastructure sustainability to continue with uncompromised water and sanitation service delivery.
ENDS
So add another R3 per Kl to your existing metro bill. A leaking toilet could waste 400Lt per day, that is 12Kl per month. An underground leak or a pipe burst would be much more! Just the increased levy (without your normal billing) will add R36 to your account, but that's not all. Your Metro bill works on a sliding scale; the more you use, the more you pay! You could easily end up with another R1000 or R2000 per month!
So, can you afford not to have an AUS-iot Monitor to read your meter remotely and warn you if there is a leak?

Oh dear. This is terrible news. How does anyone think this is humane?
I think the cape water crisis is not a problem of cape town only. It is a warning to the whole world. South Africa is a country which contributed least to climate change and yet experiencing the cruel fate. I don’t understand why the government is not taking any strict measures.
