Trouble with Win Picture and fax viewer XP sp 3

If anybody has the problem with Windows picture and fax viewer where the file goes corrupt as soon as you turn the display either left or right, there is a hotfix on the Microsoft website to resolve this problem. This is only for win XP pro sp 3.

Just do a google on this problem and you will be led to the correct download page.
You have to request this download from MS and they will send you an email with the link and a password.

Perhaps my BS detectors are just a little sharper than usual today - but this doesn't fit MS's usual style in releasing patches and hotfixes. At least not in my eperience. Anyone else come across MS playing the email link and password game before?

I have seen it before, reason is I think is that is fixes for specific circumstances and not to be freely available for download, also may be "untested and buggy"

I'd simply advise not using that proggy & ignore the update. I simply use the Free XnView instead, thus far pretty good & has a lot more features than M$'s dinky-toy. Not to mention it has a native Linux version for my Ubuntu install as well

Check out the following MS page : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970922

It certainly fixed my problem and I have not detected any "funnies"

Not sure of this is related - I had someone who could not open any excel files. It kept giving a Windows pic and fax viewer message. Turns out somewhere the excel files were being told to use windows pic faxviwer as teh program to open. Maybe related maybe not?

Look for something called "Set program access and defaults", it's available when you click the Start button in XP.

Photoeditor was a far superior option that came with Office2000, I never figured out why they dumped it in favour of the picture fax viewer. I still use just the photoeditor executable for jpg viewing and minor editing.
