Tell them if they want 8.5% extra (or whatever their likely to accept) then they need to be eight and a half percent more productive. It’s simple economics.

Why is it in SA that there are 4x as many people on every building site- and they all stand around holding a broom doing nothing... that only happens in Africa

Right let’s call it a conspiracy for now, Firstly the power stations cannot cope with the winter demand thus if the iron plants go down then the power stations can get maintenance going this is the first so call gain. The second gain is the steel plant owners get a generous payment for services not rendered by the power company thus they don’t complain they are making money AND they can do some maintenance or intimidate workers by closing their doors.

The third ting one must look at is employee intimidation. Anyone that knows steel plants know they get a lot of overtime and things like that. That said there basic is very low thus the reason for the strikes to begin with.

If there is no work there is no overtime, no overtime for a steel plant employee is serious because they will not be able to keep their heads above water for very long, thus undermining the union’s ability to negotiate.

Now it sounds so stupid that one would go “BS” but is it? If so why is it happening?

More importantly why the demand for more money? Fact everything is getting more expensive to the point where a working person can no longer afford a home, car and the basics. This is also fact.

Now who is behind all of this? I don’t have a 500% increase nor do my company earn over 8.9 billion in profit per year so I cannot answer this question. That said it is not impossible to imagine...who and why…
