@ IanF - that was the funniest thing that came out... imagine what the world thought of us. It brought a smile when that came out. Imagine the road rage and road side vendor stories that would come from it.... Still makes me smile!! I wouldn't dare get one, probably would have smoked like 50 flash drive or sun glasses vendors by now!!

If I see hijackers walk to my car, I will start the system then the hijackers will not close to my car. How could they through a spark plug at my car's window? And the system only started when users fell they under emergency situation.
JDG can now see what the issue is with both threads re security. The SA market is perfect for security systems, huge amounts are spent in this country on it. HOWEVER, if you are serious about this market, you need to spend a few months here and put yourself in these situations. If you survive that, and i am really not joking "IF YOU PUT YOURSELF PURPOSELY IN THESE SITUATIONS YOUR CHANCES OF WALKING AWAY IN A FEW MONTHS IS POSSIBLY UNLIKELY"

You dont have a firm grip of what it is really like. What everyone is saying is quite honest here. South africans have experience at looking for potential hazards and yet still get caught out. The crime in general is often really violent for no reason. You can die here for a cell phone.

Dont want to make this thread out as a "South African Horror story, stay away for here"... but it is rough. If we could see the hijacker coming, there would be alot less of it, but it is really just not that easy.

    jdg1868,
I have been next to car a when a smash and grab happened, the guy who did it looked so innocent. It happens so quickly that there is no time to react. We have all learnt to put our valuables in the boot/trunk of our cars. what they seem to do is look in a car looking for handbags and computers. When they see that it happens so fast by the time they have stolen your stuff and run off do you get over the shock. Then we can't assume everyone walking up to our stopped cars are a criminal as we have so many beggars and vendors at the traffic lights who aren't there to steal. So it is not simple.
Only stress when you can change the outcome!

It just shows you do not know what you are talking about. You never know that a hijacking is to take place until it has happened. At every street corner there is 3, 4 of 5 people begging for money, the hijackers do not wear a sign on their chest saying I am a hijacker. I think you are living in utopia, criminals disguise themselves as every day people. They do not wear black cloths with a hood on their head, so how do you know if the person approaching your car is a beggar or a hijacker. Some beggar knocks on your window, which may be a woman holding a child, so your attention is now on her, so what is stopping someone breaking your passenger window and pointing a gun at you. If you move they shoot you. We are not Bruce Lee who can move as fast as lightning, or even Chuck Norris for that matter who can fell down an army with one kick.

As I have said, you have not experienced a hijacking before.

If the situation as you said, we security system have no measures to protect people, for our security system's functions are, First reminding user when there is people close your car; Second, taking response measures, like close your window or door; Third, active defence--locating position of people surrounding the car, then attack them in the least time.
