Unless you're visiting questionable parts of the internet, for goodness sake switch it off.
I've been muttering about how pathetic my internet speeds have been and cursing my ISPs. Now that I've turned off Internet Explorer 8 Smartscreen Filter, voila, my internet she be fast again

What i find incredibly annoying is that even tho i have IE8 and don't use it at all (firefox) Windows update assures me that it is of absolute critical importance that i update a security flaw in IE6. If i tell it to not download it and check the box (don't remind me about updates for this bla bla.) it will happily remind me in 5 min. if i don't dl a fix for it it doesn't give me any other updates.
