Grrrrr... Vista short cuts deleted
Hey all, Please can you help with suggestions..
I have several network shortcuts on my desktop, sometimes without thinking i forget to change networks and click a short cut. Cause the shortcut fails, Vista decides to auto clean for me and remove the shortcut everytime. Got really frustrated now... where to go please...

I'm not at my vista machine at the mo, but start, control panel, look for something to do with the network and sharing centre, then on the left hand taskbar there should be a view connections. if nobody else responds more accurately will check this evening.

oh gee... that's a whole other kettle of fish... and google is showing a particularly wonderful array of examplesfor "how to create shortcuts on a desktop" when what I typed is "vista deleting network shortcuts off desktop when not found"

the only thing I can think of is dragging the shrtcut into the quick launch bar at the bottom (next to windows media player and ie7). maybe that'll help. and it will clear up some desktop space.

Bad news... didn't work. It seems as though vista allows the error 2 or 3 times, then deletes the shortcut as it considers it no longer viable... Not a common issue as cant find much on it.. will update if i ever find it!
Thanks for tips though! Good ideas...

yeah, I think most users just go into the network and sharing section and connect and disconnect as necessary.
I'd like to help you out, but I think it would be easier if I knew more about exactly why you need them on your desktop. I'm used to using the network and sharing icon in the lower right hand area of the taskbar...
clutching at straws right now, but give this a quick look.
disable autocleanup in XP
I know it's for XP (sadly, my office PC is XP otherwise I'd try this myself), but vista might have some better options. heck maybe disabling autocleanup will help. anyway, as I said, just clutching at straws =P
