This is a 5MB hard disk drive, which weighed a TON in 1956.
Make you appreciate your 2GB USB drive, doesn't it?

As a 20-year old in 1959 I prepared one of the first computerised payrolls in S.A. The mainframe and peripherals occupied a whole floor of the Durban Treasury, and the 5mb hard drive was about the size of a filing cabinet - I guess that was progress!
Hi Graeme,
I worked for IBM from 66 to 79 in the days of the IBM 360 and then the 370.
It filled a dance hall !
On the "smaller" side the IBM 632 , working with valves ( Wait 30 minutes before operating !!) and the IBM 6400 with a total of 64 Kb memory. Nogal magnetic core !!

I have "Googled" this virus and it turns out that I needed to have a system scan done ! The result of this scan was that there were no signs indicating a fluid problem but rather too much solid data being fed into the data storage utility via the esophagus interface. It is suggested that I put on a data cap in order to reduce the flow. Eish !! the good life !
