Typical ANC thinking.

Well, I was fined for one rear brake light not working when pulled over at a roadblock. I have no problem with that .....guilty.

The fine was payable only at the magistrates court no later than 5th May.

So every morning for the last 6 weeks I drove past the magistrates court with the intention of stopping to pay the fine, but, parking has been a problem, not being able to find a vacant spot on the block.

Yesterday at 11.45 am on my normal jaunt past the court, lo and behold, a convenient parking spot presented itself and I quickly grabbed it.

Retreived the fine from the cubby and proceeded to walk the +- 150 meters to the court confident that my problem was about to be solved and at the same time praying that my car would be in the same condition as it had been left, on my return.

At the court, the security at the entrance enquired what I needed to do at the court, at which I showed him the fine and informed him that I came to pay up. Well, he said, you had better come back on Tuesday morning. All the courts and offices in the court complex had closed at 11am to give everyone time to get ready for the long weekend ahead.

And that is one of the reasons that the judicial system in this ANC run Municipality is totally #ucked. Preparing for a long weekend ahead is an important priority.

Well, on Tuesday, I will as usual go past the court in search of that elusive parking spot, failing which I will go and park in front of the courts entrance at 2am on the Morning of Monday 5th of May to settle my bill. I have consulted the calendar to ensure that there are no public holidays that week for which the court staff will require time off in order to prepare for.

I take it the parking spot was available because of the absent staff

Yes this is true- anc IS f.....
I Went to the dept of labour on Wednesday to have my Electrical Cert. renewed for the next 3 years- Now in the past the took cash and the after a couple of minutes ,was handed me my new DOL form.
But on that day i was told "we dont take cash" - so no problem i have a card - then the doorman who checked all my forms told me no- i have to make an EFT then produce the POP, as this was in Town i had no option but to return home.
So i returned again on thursday, and was there at 10h00 , before i got in the lift i was told that the whole dept of labour was not in and left office at 9h30 and i could not go in, so went back outside -waited a few minutes, then returned and told the reception i need to go on the 2nd floor ,luckily he let me in -so i went to the 6th floor where the DOL was, i found the door unlocked and walked in, was shouting hello hello , but nobody - as i walked through the building the same doorman confronted me as he was alone at that floor- , short of it i told him this is not a holiday - where are all the staff..., after he got over his shock - i handed him the papers- checked it and it was correct- now waiting 14 days for my DOL papers....
This is how they slowly choke their own dept. to death- i shudder what to find over the next 3 years...

Can you not pay your fine online through your bank?
Alternatively, just ignore it as they are too lax to collect fines anyway.

@Blurock. Nope. Can only be paid in cash at the court. That's how we roll here.

I got a fine went straight to the court building, went upstairs, filled out a document, went to another room in the building, spoke to a man about a fine, then downstairs to the cashier, paid the R10 we agreed on, lost an hour or so in time but saved a few bob.

Update:

So I managed to find parking this morning.

Entered the court building at 9.45am.
Was directed to the correct office with fine in hand.

Was advised that the card machine is not working. No problem, had cash with me.

Handed her the fine and cash and then the waiting started. After an hour and a half I was told that the system is down and that a manual receipt will be issued.

20 minutes later I received a manual receipt. 10 minutes short of 2 hours I left the court building wondering if my cash was going to end up in the right place and not in someone's pocket. Forgive me for having these thoughts, but I smell a rat.

Hope I'm wrong.
