This past few days has got me thinking about how the electrical industry is structured to protect the elctrical industry.
We have a book which is designed to protect the humans and animals, yet the industry is structured in such a way that it makes it difficult for the very humans who the SANS book is designed to protect to get assistance.
We issue COC/test reports which I assumed were legal documents, but it seems the document is just used to make the public think they have a reasonably safe elctrical installation, for insurance purposes, the insurance companies dont seem too phased about the document until there is a claim and even then so long as the customer has a COC/test report, nobody really cares about the content of the document.
It feels like the public should start an EPA (electrical public association) to protect the public.
I thought it was the job of the DOL to protect the public, you would think, they would have a portal for the public to engage with them to ask question or query challenges they face with electrical contractors.
Samples of what a COC is suppose to look like,
Attorneys to deal with legal issues,
Maybe there, if you know of any please share.
Please feel free to set the record straight.
The sad part is that there electrical contractors out there who do care about the industry, but the lack of any form of policing is absolutely destroying this industry.
The smart contractors are joining associations and using them to protect themselves from their dodgy workmanship under the associations banner. This situation we are dealing with at present is a good example.
I dont believe the company which installed the solar is even a registered elctrical contractor, why I say this is because the person who signed the COC and the company which did the installation is not the same. It looks like the company is using the person who has now registered with the association.
This should be good news for my customer because now the customer can deal directly with the association, well that is what I thought.
