Could you do with another public holiday?

I sure could. It seems like the government wants to make May the 2nd a public holiday in South Africa Smiley

The rumour mill on this is rumbling big time. Yesterday, someone was telling me that there was a thought to make this coming Thursday a public holiday because of the current load shedding problem, and to make up the time May 2nd would not be a public holiday.

I think the mischief makers are really busy at the moment.

Well. It's official. Friday 2nd May 2008 will be a public holiday.

This makes that week a 2 day working week. I've already had staff asking for those two days off too!

I am to say the least completely shocked at this decision. I cannot believe how shallow Mbeki is. He is probably hoping that the working force would love him more now.

When I heard about this the first time my thoughts was... "What a ridiculous request" lol, how wrong I was.

And Jacob Zuma is branded as being a popularist

It's become clear that BUSA was not consulted. I don't know how business is expected to keep absorbing all these punches.

This just stuffs GDP in the eye and exacerbates the situation in SA with regards to employment. Govt clearly doesn't understand or simply couldn't care to understand the link between productivity and employment in the economy. And this, all leading up to showcasing the South African environment in 2010.
What with the lost productivity with all the power outages and winter still to come, the GDP situation doesn't look good. Is it any wonder why business people (who are already feeling the effects of this) are looking at other alternatives - including establishing their businesses in overseas markets where this stupidity doesn't exist.
Yes, Mbeki might gain some 'votes' for this simply because the general population has no understanding of the medium to long term effects of sitting on one's backside and not being productive...

Clearly business in SA must be hemoraging money...if this all continues jobs will follow and hopefully dumb politicians
