classification of sinks and Basin , no longer have zones

    Hi Guys

I recently read an article online regarding some burning issues. It seem that Kitchen Sinks and Laundry Sinks are not treated as bathrooms , you can also place a Socket outlet within 2 metres of a tap under certain conditions , furthermore , certain socket outlets for home use no longer required a switch on the socket outlet

    My question is

Can an Electrical DB be placed in a Laundry or Kitchen ? I have seen many instances where this is in fact true , but then the owner construct a cupboard over the DB encapsuling the DB

I have a Problem with That , since often these cupboards are used for storage and render the main switch Unreachable in case of an Emergency

Can you please shed some light on This Troubled situation

    Kind regards

Yes ya i asked about sockets near a tap once and basically a sink etc is not a barthoom, only where you take a morning dump or shower is a bathroom which requires zones.

And the the socket by a tap, it can be put under a tap if you want as long as it has earth leakage protection. Weird and feels wrong but regs state nothing about it that I can find.

The issues with a DB in a kitchen is there will be IP ratings. Can't look now but something about IP and DB.

Then the cupboard thing with accessibility is a huge thing and I don't know.

Often a kitchen is redone and DB enclosed so zero work can be done comfortable for maintenance. The really bad ones I refuse to work on.

The access to the main switch also tricky as I have had a client say well I can smash all the bottles out the way while reaching.

I feel kitchen fitters should not build around a DB and relocate the DB with the joins being accessible in the roof space.

Just remember, the definition of a bathroom is a room containing a shower or a bath or a spa or any combination of the above.

A room with a toilet and washbasin is not a bathroom.

We all survived geysers literally hanging in the bath back in the day. I recall the cover on our geyser had rusted off the bottom of the geyser and all the wiring was exposed, you could sit in the bath and touch the wires and the element I dont recall anyone dying for being elctricuted in the bath. It seems and we evolve we get find it more difficult to use common sense.

Here I'm refering to the 33%er's. You see all over on social media, they say they do not need education because they have natural intelligence and superior logic.

I'll leave it there for you to decide.

Can't find my black book right now but the previous edition see 5.3.8 b) c) and f) and 6.6.1.6 and 6.6.1.7 c)
Also, see the NOTE below 6.6 Distribution boards. Just thought I would add it for interest and clarity
