    Fall protection

We are now going double story, so its time to do safety checks and arrnage to get the correct training and gear required.

Any tips or training you would recommend.

You could do at heights training - They are covering that aspect as well - Course will set you back anywhere between 1,5K to 2,5K depending who you do it with

At the end of the day it is pretty much common sense - Rope tie around a tree ( Decent one ) on the opposite side to where you working and throw across roof - Clip in with a safety harness or belt type system

    Common sense

I have to fit panels on a double story house and unfortunately the team is still brand new (expanding faster than we can keep up) .

I watched a team of installers, thinking I could learn something from these lads who have done "100s" of installations. Well it turned out, I didnt want my team to learn bad habits. I dont beleive using the solar hooks as fall protection is a smart idea.

Eventually I stepped forward and advised them to tie the rope around a pillar.

Watching a person drop 3 floors when he missed the top of the ladder, I finished my lunch and left the parking the lot, If he didnt die when he hit he ground and bounced he would have died shortly after, or witnessing a person drop 8 meters because the person holding the ladder walked away to fetch something, fortunately he only borke a few bones.

I am thinking about making a bracket which will clamp onto the trusses with a D shackle above the gutter, or maybe a solution where you do something similar to a roof hook.

securing a sling around the trusses is a quick easy solutions, however if there is plastic, you dont want to damage the plastic to wrap the sling.

I like the idea of using scaffolding, however the cost would kill the budget.

Lets talk about fall protection, simple solutions and wher eyou can find the right equipment to make the job a little safer.

In the 40 year sI have been in the construction industy I have witnessed many terrible accident, the most common being falls. In most cases the people have been left seriously injurded and in one case the bounced and died on site.

On one we celerbrated the amount of man hours worked and the fact that only 28 people died.

    Lets get this right.

I am looking for equipemtn which is simple (like rock climbing) with the ring on the front not the back, so that we can move around and use the rope to support us while working.

This is even easier, but I dont thin kit would work on our type of roof.
