Thread: Deye 5K Inverter error

    Deye 5K Inverter error

    Asked to attend to LED lights that would glow when not switched on.

    On the DB there are 2 Neutral bars. They were not connected. After connecting them the glowing issue went away.

    The DB wasn't partitioned for AC and DC but the sytove circuit breaker was powered directly from the Main Isolator (bypassing the earth leakage)

    After sorting the neutrals out the inverter throws an error and alarm when coming out of loadshedding. When only on AC or only on DC the thing is fine. It's when crossing over.

    Error code is F18 - AC overrun

    Checking the manual there is a L, N and a "PE" cable.

    Existing wiring is L and N from the Main switch to the Inverter, and then a blue and yellow connected to the power in on the Earth leakage - Blue to N and Yellow to Live.

    I'm sure this is incorrect but don't know enough about inverters.

    Can anyone assist?

    Check the voltages on the output side of the inverter, check the neutral earth bond (relay if there is one)

    I am busy with a couple inverter installations, testing the outputs with earth/neutral bonds and without, and recording all the data.

    It seems these inverters are just big UPS units.

    Trying to find someone who can backup their comments with credible data about neutral/earth bonding seems as difficult as finding an honest solar installer.

    It seems everyone is an expert and has been an expert since the 1950's, yet inverters only became the next best thing since sliced bread and created a few smart millionaires literally overnight, since stage 6 load shedding started.

    If there is anyone who actually know what they are talking about when it comes to neutral/earth bonding, switching response times, circulation currents and the affect it has on the systems, feel free to pm me.

    On colour marking:

    6.3.3.2 The means of identification for an a.c. circuit may be by colours or by numbers, as follows:

    a) where colours are used

    1) a neutral conductor shall be identified by black only,

    2) an earth continuity conductor shall be identified by the bi-colour green/yellow only, or by being bare. Green/yellow insulated conductors shall NOT be used as live conductors under any circumstances,

    3) a phase conductor shall be identified by a colour other than green/yellow, green or black, and

    NOTE Welding cable manufactured to SANS 1576 should not be used in circuits above 100 V.

    4) the colours may be applied at the ends of the conductor (of a multicore cable) by means of durable colour marking (e.g. insulating sleeves or by electrical insulating tape wound more than once around the conductor), and

    b) where numbers are used, "0" shall indicate the neutral conductor.

    On what you have got connected to the neutral terminals per your photos, I must also point out that:

    6.6.1.11 If a conductor of cross-sectional area exceeding 4 mm2 is used, it shall be so installed to allow any one neutral conductor to be disconnected without disturbing the connection of any other neutral conductor.

    Error F-18 is Over Current.

    There may be too many loads connected to the inverter essential loads circuit which may be causing an overload.

    Alternatively, the circuits have not been isolated correctly as essential, and non essential.
    It is imperative that the Neutrals are on the respective bus bar after the main isolator/breaker
    This is where the Neutral Bonding relay plays its roll
    Have you installed the CT after the main isolator/breaker?

    Do a search on google it may help.
    Note that the Deye and Sunsync inverters are very similar, and any solutions to one will apply to the other

    Something sounds and looks completely wrong here or I am misreading- You also dont mention if there are batteries and panels connected

    There should be a supply going to the inverter on terminal marked - Grid

    The inverter essential load output ( Load) should then go to an isolator/D/pole CB and feed it's own neutral bar and live

    The Deye has 2 outputs - one that is essential load and a 2nd that can be programmed for part essential with load control or genset input.

    The essential output of the Deye needs to have an earth neutral bridge contactor when it runs in grid loss - This contactor coil is feed from terminal ATS which energizes the contactor in grid loss -

    Looking at your pic it would appear that grid in and essential out is on the same live and neutral point
    Sounds like the client got taken by a so called installer that has no idea

    Don't get confused - it is the same as connecting any UPS into an installation just a couple of extra settings and then some panels
    On the Deye and Sunsync there is a 2nd output which could be like 2 UPS's connected into an installation


    After all that - If everything does appear to have been correct before you got there - The glow is because the earth neutral bridge was missing.

    You don't mention if it is all the time or just during grid loss .

    If it was just grid loss then you will need to insert a bridge contactor operated by terminal ATS
