I have had installations that have had no damage with a lost star point due to surge arrestors installed .

I also had one that the surge arrestors started smoldering due to the current that it was pulling down to earth

I dont believe people realise how dangerous it is when the neutral cable/bar is stolen, not only from the voltage but also a fire hazard. It is EXTREMELY dangerous when the neutral is removed.

In a single phase domestic installation we normally fit a CBI 2 pole arrestor. This will trip if it gets a 275v input either on neutral or live incoming.
So in your case i would like to know if this device will trip.
I always try to get the customer to also put external plug in surge arrestors especially on individual items like TV, computer and expensive appliances.

This is why here in the Cape we have to have our earthing spot on, all installations require their own earth spikes/mats and must have the correct readings. The Incoming N is linked to the Earth spike at the entry point in meter box

    Good day

I currently import surge protection units, i have tried contacting the insurance companies to make an offer for these devices and nobody is interested.
It just doesnt make sense to me. They could save millions on surge claims.
I have been testing my units for roughly 8 months now and they work perfectly.

    Keep well.
