    I hope to have my ECA memebrship sorted out by the next meeting. I did get all the documets. ther euse to be a good relationship between contractor and the metro, they shut us out by scrapping the contractor access desk/window and made us join the 5 row que for the genral public That why I dont get involved i nnew appliaction or mete relocation or any of that stuff anymore=. if costs the custome rtoo much for me to spend 3 hours in a que to be told I dont have the correct document

    Its not like the contractors are have created the issue swith the metro.

    You try deal with them and you will understand why contractors would gear up for a bashing session. It works both ways.

    This SSEG registration is aprime example, unless you have a connection who has a mate in the right department, or like me, sub constracted to the the electriciaty department for 10 years, you pretty much on your own.

    Lets get this right, the installation are piling up and customers want it done right. the longer this takes the more difficult it is going to be to encourage people to register.

    Any update as I had a visit from EThekwini today questioning why my usage as been so low over the past 3 months. The chap then noticed we had solar and said he will note down that as the reason it's been so low and the fact we have been away on holiday a large amount.

    Has anyone had any luck registering there system or even an email address to say at lease I tried but it bounced.

    Thanks

    I have had zero luck, even went to the solar show and spoke to Eskom booth people, they said next to nothing other than write your details on a form and they will contact.... It's been a few months and nothing.

    So if like you I sent an email requesting someone contact me with details on how to register my system I have done all I can....

    Let's wait and see if I get anything back from eThekwini after thier visit today. I don't export to the grid and our system is bigger than we need so we don't use much power at all.

    The emails just keeps bouncing, tried sending emails to to otehr addresses, no response. Like everything in the electrical industry, you can only smile and shake your head. The problem is going to become a reality when they start sending huge fines for not registering, what do we do. Maybe contact Carte Blanche or the radio station.

    The feedabck I am getting is that they dont reduce your bill they just keep sending estimates for the same amount. they not loosing anything, at the end of the day only the customer and maybe the installer is going to loose. they going to have to find more money to pay fines, levies, fees and everything erlse that is going to be loaded to recover losses, maybe even disconnections.

    What people dont realise its like taxes, they never go away, the interest just grows, the metros are going to recover "all" their losses from the suburbs, we just dont know how yet, and nobody can answer the question.

    There is going to be a lot of money exchanging hands soon. I think the smile many solar customers are enjoying at the moment is going to be short lived and its going to turn toanger and and frustration.

    How is it going to impact you as an installer, some are smiling with a few hundred installs, just imagine the fines, this is where being a hit and run installer might not be such a bad thing .

    Good news for electricity prices and other tariff hikes in Durban

    The City of eThekwini has revised its proposed lower electricity price increase for 2023 while also marginally reducing the property and sanitation rate hikes.
    The city tabled its revised budget to be adopted by the council on Wednesday (31 May). According to the city, the updated proposal makes the following tariff revisions:

    • Electricity tariff hike reduced from 21.9% to 18.49%;
    • Sanitation tariff hike reduced from 11.9% to 10.9%;
    • Rates tariff hike reduced from 8.9% to 7.9%;
    • Refuse tariff hike reduced from 8.0% to 6.9%.

    Ethekwnini has secured the highest tarrif increase in the country for 2023/2024 of 18.49 % and that is the good news . It must be to cover the cost of all the transfomers being replaced on a daily basis due to fires, because the infrastructure cant handle the load shedding. 2 hours load shedding, 5 hours to 3 days to repair the damage caused by the overloaded system

    There is chatter in the wind that they are busy preparing for a massive upgrade to meters, to prevent people from spinning the meter in reverse.

    I hear there is also talk that they are busy preparing the start fining and disconnecting people who havent registered their system, I am yet to hear of one person registering a domestic SSEG.

    I dont know how true it is, but I am also hearing of people reducung their daily consumption, yet when the meter reading is taken and it is lower then the old estimated tarrif , your bill doesnt change, they continue with the old estimated price. If you complain they trheaten that they will be sending out someone to check the meter.

    Some say contractors should engage and comminicate with the council, the day they cut the link by scrapping the conctrators dedicated counter, was the last day I entered the building. Contractors have to join the que with the general public.

    The general public seem to think this SSEG is just going to go away and they will be able to continue to use the SSEG for as long as they like, I think you are all in for a little surprise and there is going to be a lot of unhappy people once the council gets the ball rolling.

    Reading comments on social media already indicate people are squealing about product markups and being ripped off by installers, wait til lthey find out all the costs to register the system with the council,

    The engineer,

    The registered electrical contractor, who might not just be willing to issue a supplimentary COC for a non compliant installation.

    The council registration fee.

    The meter replacement fee.

    The monthly SSEG fee which will be added to your monthly bill.

    This could cost what system cost to install and more, looks like some will be taking 3rd bonds on the house or more loans from the back

    This registration thing is scary. Tried to get info and no avail.

    The bylaws in the city of Joburg mention nothing.

    How I see it and probably wrong is they can not go back in time to fine if it was not in place before.

    If it comes to me on the line for all this I will have to shut shop as I don't have funds for any of that.

    To give you an idea of what this means to you:

    An average 3 bedroom house using around 30 kwh per day @ R2.58 = R77.4 per day, multiply that by 30 days = R2322.00

    In reality it is closer to 40 Kwh per day @R2.58 = R103.2 per day, multiple that by 30 days = R3096.00

    The tarrif will increase from R2.58 to R 3.06 per kwh (by the way this is the domestic "single phase" tarrif, your bussines and general and "3 phase" tarrif is a little )

    40 kwh per day @3.06 = R122.4 per day x 30 days = R3672.00 excluding the SSEG month fee once register, which could be around R681 per month (from info on social found on social media, we all know how reliable social media can be)

    that would make your bill around R4353 per month.

    You going to need a lot of panels on the roof to generate a lot of power ot feedabck into the grid to attempt to reduce the bill.

    This is the official document on their website, try fill out the form and submit it to the email address liste don the document. Let me know if you can get it ot work.
