    Axpert

    Hello

I have been told and Axpert which charges SLA can not charge lithium as lithium is constant current etc and the Axperts time out.

There is a setting for user defined but can they really charge lithium properly ?

That's interesting, I have never connected an Axpert inverter to a lithium battery, in most cases the customers using Axpert inverter are looking for a more affordable solution, so we have them connected to deep cycle lead acid batteries, Gel and AGM batteries.

We have real time experience with these batteries for the past 6 years using with Axpert invertors and 10 years of experience using them in bass fishing competitions

What I can tell you from experience, within 3 years they loose their backup capacity and boil after 3.5 years when used with Axpert units and around 5 year life cycle used with a trolling motor.

Installers set the cutout voltage too low which results in warranty claims in less than 2 years, first hand experience with AGM batteries.

In some cases some supplier will not honour warranty claims if not temp. sensor is not installed.

Temperature plays a huge part on the life cycle of batteries.

Then if we talk load shedding, this is where battery selection really comes into play, people say why is charge and discharge cycles so important, anything from stage 4 and up, a FLA battery becomes a problem, any battery can charge at discharge at a high rate, you can even drop the DOD right down, it boils down to the damage that it causes. The battery C rating, DOD and temp. will determine the life cycle of the battery.

As I am sure you have read in the other post, lithium batteries are not as simple as one would think to select, just too many variables.

Something I would like to point out which some people are not aware of, inverter and battery BMS compatibility.

One of the 2 reasons I havent just gone out and blown R25000 on a Hubble battery for the Sunsynk inverter, there seem to be a few issues still being ironed out and the other is the 10 year warranty on the inverter and battery if used together. Is it a sales gimmick to increase Sunsynk battery sales, I dont know as I mentioned trying get get a response from both seems just as difficult. I have considered rather just spending a little more and getting a Freedom one, they seem to be the Victron of batteries (better quality)

Unfortunately lithium batteries are still new and expensive, will there be a better option anytime soon, you never know, at the rate the EV market is expanding, battery technology should start improving at a much faster rate.

Please feel free to correct me if you have the facts, I have a lot to learn and need to make a decision sooner than later.

Yes ya I saw one the other day if an Axpert with a Pylon. Looked weird but funny thing the inverter has now blown up.... Not sure what from as was gone when I was there and this not even a month old that install.

That is what I know is that the battery BMS and inverter need to be able to work together. So I don't think these Axperts can properly charge the batteries. I would love to know more but hard to find the answer and I think the answer is complicated and that is why.

What inverter do you guys use for a lithium battery backup, say a 1kw to a 5kw. As far as I can tell the cheaper options are Axperts and those can't charge lithium but am I wrong, is there a way ?

I have just bought a couple Sunsynk units, but trying to get technical supports is proving to be a lot more difficult than I expected. I even spoke to the UK technical support, I was told someone from SA would contact me, and that's were support ended

Ah nice ! Good play time

I had the same issue... Did one and thought support would be easy but not so much hahaha.
