May one make up your own protected socket outlet using a shroud and circuit breaker next to the outlet if surface mounted instead of buying a protected socket outlet ?
It works out at about a third of the price if you make your own.

I would not recommend doing that as there are SANS regulations governing the make up of sockets and I am sure that one of them will be on protected sockets .
You will find the list under Table 4.1 in SANS 10142-1

In the UK they have fused Connection Units which allow a fuse to be placed to protect smaller wires and sockets etc.
That socket can solve quite a few issues.

Definition of a protected socket outlet.
3.62 socket outlet combined with, or adjacent to and protected by, a device that has either overload protection or overcurrent protection.
Just be aware, connecting a number of these sockets on the same supply wire may overload the wire while each socket is running below the circuit breaker current.

The circuit would still require overcurrent protection at the DB based on the wire size of the circuit.

I have in the past fitted this small single CB holder box next to the socket. How ever this option just looks so much neater.
Unless they have a module system where but I can get the yoke and cover plate then I can add my own socket outlet and the CB.
