From my experience with Fluke products ... after sales service is not required ... it just works ... however sometimes with the more advanced equipment ... having a person who can assist with technical setup and operation is a huge help.

I have also been watching the TIS MFT ... Dave Savery electrical punts it on youtube.

Personal I stick with brands I trust ... unfortunately in some cases like Hilti ... they make a really good quality product ... their support for small business is non existent or should I say they dont give a rats a$$ about the little guy ... so you have to decide if you are prepared to pay 10 times the price of other brands for a disposable product ... or buy though a company with a lot of employees which will result in a massive discount ... Hilti discount structure works on employee count not quantity of purchase ... how do I know this ... I sub contract to big companies and get to purchase huge volumes of product for specific sites ... if you knew how bad you get screwed as a company with few employees ... you would probably not support Hilti out of principle ... It is so sad.

When you buy equipment for R50 000.00 or R100 000.00... the difference between the 10 % discount and 45 % makes you pay attention ...so much so that the 15 % vat makes your 10 % discount seem silly.

Yes ya it was David Savery that first got me looking into the Metrel and then the TIS. Then a few other sparks have spoken of or used the TIS so it is a heavy contender for me especially at the price.

And sorry about the Hilti not honouring what it said and hiding behind fine print. I do think their tools are one of and if not the best but If they give the small guy the run around then not keen... but also as devils advocate I have not had to deal with any other brand as yet with warranty so maybe they also up to sh!t.

I am a fan of the dewalts, Makitas, Fest tool and the like as they are mid way on price and the performance is kind of there.

Once you have been hands on working with equipment for as long as I have ... you learn which tools are the best for the application.

For example I still have matabo machines from when I started the business 31 years ago ... I found for steel work metabo would be my first choice.

Brick and concrete ... Hilti would be my first choice ... even though the support for the product in SA for small business is so crap ... the machine quality is still the best.

Wood work ... festool if you can afford it ... other wise Makita makes a really good product ... all my woodworking machines are Makita

A good example of unsuitable combinations ... 15 minutes using the Hilti vacuum in the workshop connected to the drum sander and ... the Hilti machine stalls ... the makita vacuum will run until it is full.

Yet if I use the makita vacuum on site with the dustless chasers ... 3 days and the motor is %^&* ... the Hilti just keeps going.

Another example using a TE 55 for chipping walls ... bad idea ... yet you can drill 30 mm holes through concrete floors ... all day long ... I have a small makita breaker .... we use it for shipping walls ... it can run all day.

When it comes to test equipment ... fluke wins hands down ... It's is too dangerous to use other tester ... I feel confident putting my hands in a 1500 amp DB using a fluke test ... I would wear rubber gloves with leather gloves over them if I were to use any other make of tester. Yes I have made that mistake of forgetting to change the leads ... all you hear is small pop sound and the fuse blows inside the meter.

The fluke test leads dont last long but compared to other test leads ... I would rather get the fluke ones.
