    @Ians

I am surprised that you are wondering about the time difference. It's Council versus private. Enough said. 😁

    Have a lekker weekend.
Xolani has just finished another meter install while I've been playing with my phone.

    Time to pack up now.

    Peace out .. Derek.

Before I make any more comments about the council ... I have sent the council an email to find out if we can apply for a council pre paid meter online ... after the last quick response within 48 hours ... I am going to rather wait and see how they respond to my email ... maybe things have improved.

I went to another site today to test the loop impedance so that I could send them an email ... it is already sorted out

Anyone have the rates for a netvender smart meter ... rate to install and service and other fees charged ? It should be public knowledge ... considering it a basic service to the public.

As for the council pre paid ... it is confirmed that there at least a 1 year waiting list for a council pre paid ... pretty convenient for the private pre paid companies

    Fact:

To confirm that I have received an email from the council ... and yes it does take about 1 year (12 months) to get a council prepaid meter installed ... depending on availability.

    Morning Ians

Whether there is a waiting list or not for Municipal prepaid meters has absolutely no effect on the private pre paid meter companies.

Private companies are in the business of sub metering. The Municipality is not. The Municipality do NOT supply prepaid meters for sub metering purposes. Period.

No competition at all between the 2. The one does not effect the other.

    Peace out .. Derek.

Sorry I dont agree ... I have many customers who have installed pre paid meter as the main meter ... just to make sure the tenant doesnt run up a high bill and duck.

I think initially sub metering was the goal ... but with a 1 year waiting period customers are installing pre paid meters at the main DB.

That is intresting as even on the pre paid sub meters they say not to replace it.

So they take the whole meter out and place the CitiQ in there or do they keen the main meter then just after put the pre paid sub meter?

The latter would work as just comes after Munciple meter but the former then is strongly illegal ?

They leave the council meter in the meter box and have a private pre paid meter fitted at the main DB ... or additional pre paid meters fitted at sub DB's if they are sub letting rooms or outbuildings.

It is becoming popular for landlords to buy properties in the suburbs and rent out all the rooms ... out neighbour has had external doors fitted to all the rooms ... so now instead of one family they have a business and a family in each room ... the house next to us apparently is going the same route ... they plan to rent out every bit of space in the building and wooden huts and I wouldnt be surprised if the carport is converted in a room. One good thing is the property values seems to have gone up by about R300 000 ... I have about 15 rooms that can be converted ... so I am hoping when the time is right to get a at least R1M on the current value ... but I am not a property expert ... so I think it might be a good idea to get some advise ... before the property dumps again ... like it did a while back ... the neighbours were battling to get R1M even taking R2-300k looses ... now they selling for closer to R2M

Doing it like this means you still have to sms or phone in the meter reading ... you still get a bill from the council every months and pay them every month ... the private metering company makes their cut and every one (not the tenant) is happy.

If a house consists of rooms, each with it's own sub meter then it makes absolutely no sense fitting a prepaid meter as the main meter.

Remember if the main prepaid meter runs out of units then all the submeters are dead irrespective of whether they have credits or not.

I always recommend to prospective clients who are wanting sub meters fitted, not to convert the main meter to prepaid . By doing that they will always have to feed the main meter which is an extra burden on them.

Many have come back and thanked me for that recommendation.

    Peace out .. Derek Stuart.
