    Unknown Bug

    Good Day. I am Hennie from Pretoria. I found this bug in the garden and do not know what it is.

    It looks a bit like a stink bug, we used to get big ones when I lived in the US but I'm not sure you get them in SA.....

    Holopterna alata (according to my antiquated paper resources base) or Elasmopoda alata when I went chasing after possible variants online. Either way, finding it in Pretoria would seem to be a bit of a "find". One would expect it more on the SA Eastern Coastal zone and the lowveld.
    The trouble with opportunity is it normally comes dressed up as work.
