Okay, so here's the thing.
I passed my Electrical Trade test in 1976 & worked in the electrical industry from 1972-1984.
I then went onto other ventures for the next 32 yrs.
When load shedding started last year, I was asked by a family member to assist with installing an inverter.
Word quickly spread & was inundated with inverter requests.
After doing 19 installations, I decided it would be wise to register with the DOL, in order for me
to be able to issue my own COC's and also to sort out some of the horrific things I found while installing the inverters.
I did not have my wiremans licence (old terminoloy) or regulations papers 1&2.
I do have an N4 Diploma.
So I decided to firstly register as a single phase tester.
To do this, I had to complete the unit stds of inspection & testing.
I enrolled for a four day course at an accredited assesor.
My portfolio was then sent to EWSETA for final approval.
I have been waiting 5 weeks now with no joy.
After enquiring, I was told it could take up to 3 months.
Therafter I can apply to the DOL for my Licence (possibly another 3 months of waiting)
Therafter I can apply to the DOL, to register as an electrical contractor (don't no how long that takes)
Then, once I have passed regulations paper 1 & 2, I have to go through the whole scenario again to register as a three phase installation electrician.
Does anyone have some advice
