Let's not beat around the bush - this is about culture and tradition.

Assuming that private property was available as an option, my question to the slaughterers would be "why was it slaughtered on the sidewalk?"
Best I know, that the slaughter occurs on public property is certainly not a cultural requirement...

Thanks Dave for "explaining" the original comment, I don't think that in our present day society this should happen. There are laws that govern the slaughtering of livestock, this act of slaughtering a cow on a sidewalk should not have taken place. I know that suburban people who, when they've purchased livestock for consumption, they have it taken to an abattoir where the slaughtering can be done in an humane and controlled way..
