I have just invested in a gas stove. If i install a 9 kg bottle in the cupboard next to the stove do i have to get it certified?

Not sure, but I personally would prefer to have the bottle outside the house and connected to the stove through a pipeline. Just feels safer.
I would also install a gas leak detector alarm for a little extra safety in the case of a leak. They are relatively inexpensive. Very much like a smoke detector, a couple of hundred Rands.

I also would feel better with the bottle outside. When you sell your house you will need to have a certificate anyway. You might as well do it now to be safe.
I once managed a house with a gas stove which was installed with a certificate. Tenant reported gas smell. I had to call this guy back twice until the leak was finally sorted.
On the other hand a tenant wrecked the hose pipe between bottle and pipe. I just replaced it myself. No leak. Maybe I should change jobs and become a gas installer, ha ha.

This my point, when i leave i have a free standing gas stove with a 9 kg bottle in the cupboard. When i move, i disconnect the bottle, load the stove and bottle and off i go. Everyone i have spoken to tells me i need a compliance certificate. Next time i go camping and i take my 9 kg bottle and 2 plate free standing stove or i connect my free standing heater i need to get a compliance certificate

I agree with the detector, just for my own peace of mind.
