    Hi there

Does anyone know how our wiremans license qualification would compare in the UK.
If you move from SA to the UK and you have a wiremans license would you have to write a test over there again or are our standards in line with theirs?

Does the issuance of a CoC require permanent connection to the national grid. Are the tests that require power valid if only a generator is used to carry out testing and commissioning of an electrical installation.

7.12 States the options accepted for Alternative supplies. Point `a` addresses your concern. Will be tested as per requirements and certified.

Quick question. if i do contract work, what annexure must i complete with the company and how do i keep my GN nr? and how do i do the registration at DOL if i work work more then one company in a year? as it shows a couple companies I've worked for on their system and the ECA said this is going to be a problem but they don't know what i must do to fix it. Each company has to register me as I'm doing COC's under the company name.

You can only be registered as a single phase tester / IE / MIE at one contractor at a time.
(And my view is that is exactly the way it should be, frankly).

In terms of process to change, it is something I have had to deal with and it can be a real pain if the previous employer does not come to the party. Babalo wants affidavits from all and sundry, and also wants the previous employer's contractor registration certificate returned / updated.

    Who is Babalo?
So if i attached a letter of service to my Annexure 3 application, can they then remove me from the registration as IE at the company and put me under the new company?

You can try that, I suppose...

In our case, we had to submit a sworn affidavit from the IE we were wanting to register onto our contractor registration, and plead for DOL to accept an email from the previous contractor confirming that the IE was no longer employed by them.

I also decided to speak to someone in the "technical department" of one of the big suppliers of circuit breakers. Just when you thought its only the skilled workers😜 lucky there is still 1 person (old) left who knows what he is talking about.

Another advantage of the onbudsman, he was always glad to be of assistance and if you did not understand he would gladly meet you on site free of charge. He also took the trouble when he was not too busy to call back in a day or two to ask if you came right. I made extensive use of his knowledge when I started out and learned a hell of a lot by him even though we only met a few times.

If any of the above arises, the protection should automatically disconnect the supply or limit currents and voltages to safe values.
AFAIK, there are precious few electrical installations out there with that level of over and under voltage protection.
    Nice idea though.

Phone the ECA who doesnt have any "technical knowledge" because everyone has left
I'm happy to report the ECA is working on solving that one. Brian Bilton is back on staff at the Durban office to assist members, and I'm pretty sure there's technical support systems in place at the other offices of late too.
