Yeah Adrian, I could have a lot of fun with that, followed by HUUUUUUUUUGE accident... But it looks truly beautiful, kinda picture I would've had on my bedroom wall, at least until I became a teenager...

I want a Mercedes Unimog. This thing can go anywhere, absolutely anywhere. I would love to drive it up Africa, the middle east, Europe then through Russia (Siberia) right down to Vladivostok, Fishing along the way

I used to drive one of those when I was in the army. Left hand drive nogal. You know, their gearbox shifting is back to front. 1st is top right, 2nd bottom right, 3rd top middle, 4th bottom middle and REVERSE TOP LEFT. It takes a long time to get the old brain around not sticking it in 1st like a car.

Hell the gear thing will definitely need some getting used to, Imagine popping it in “1st” and then shocking the pants off everybody in the parking lot by reversing over some poor guy in his new Isuzu double cab

    I love Top Gear

You know they are not that expensive, you can pick up a second hand one for 100k and upwards. The law states that because it is left hand driven it has to be registered before 23July 2004, so I think you have to get a second hand Unimog for it to be legal on the road, but I see Mercedes SA does sell new ones. http://www.mercedes-benz.co.za/conte...ks/unimog.html

A friend told me that driving a Unimog in some countries will get the attention of the military, especially if it is brown or green. He says I will have bribe a few military officers along the way, but whatever they can’t stop me boet

I took a snap of the one arrangement from my spurious collection, the Big 5 flanked by a pair of heads. Kinda kitsch, touristy stuff in style, but the craftsmanship is quite something (which unfortunately the photos don't quite do justice too).

Some of the guys that make this stuff are certainly highly skilled, I've always wanted to commission a carving of my own design but have never got around to it. I had a large giraffe and an even larger rhino and hippo many years ago but alas they turned out to have woodworm.
