Have another problem. I received a pdf attachment which opens with an ominous black background and no obvious way to close the screen. That is besides a very modern looking and funky tool bar at the bottom of the screen which offers you more apps. One of which does allow you to close the file, taking you to another ambiguous page with splashes of red with no obvious way out. What I did was to poke my cursor into the top right hand corner, select Start from the craftily concealed menu and to then select the mail option which takes me back to a page with all the things I am almost familiar with.

Confusing to say the least. But it doesn't stop here.

I figure I need to install Adobe. So using Firefox (lesson learnt) I download it. And I opt to install it. All well and good. But it takes a long long time to install. Does Windows 8 install Adobe reluctantly? Or is it my lightning quick Telkom ADSL line?

I have 2gig of RAM on my brand new ever so, confusing work station. But that install was agonisingly slow. Is that normal? I am assuming that once downloaded and into the install phase we are talking hardware and software rather than connectivity? Once complete everything works as it should. What does Windows 8 use to read pdf's before installing Adobe?

Adobe Reader does take it own sweet time on any machine to install be there after fairly quick to open.....
Windows 8 use some stoopid Metro app to read PDF's - bear and grin the Adobe install ....

Should not take longer than 10 minutes though.....

Myself I use PDF Exhange viewer - the free version http://www.tracker-software.com/prod...xchange-viewer...

It does not play nicely with SARS e-filing though....otherwise perfect...

With SARS I go into "box mode" and Internet Explorer......

Do install classic shell: http://www.classicshell.net/ to get your start button back and bypass most of the Metro tile garbage and reclaim most of your desktop.....

Ten Windows 8 works (mostly) nicely thank you.....

Get that guilty feeling when driving past SARS.
Try to avoid them if possible

Having a problem saving pictures from a flashdrive. I open the picture with a nice black background. I right click and and get an option to Delete or Set As Lock Screen, App Tile or App Background. No Open With, no Picture Manager, no familiar paths, tracks or well worn highways. There is a Left Arrow in the top part of the screen which takes me to an interesting looking page which simple tells me I am lost.

Copy all photos from flash drive and paste into folder on PC....
Right click on the picture then and choose Open With and the Windows Picture Viewer...not some stoopid app.....
I assume you have already installed classic shell as per previous post?

And all editing done in Paint
    No more Windows Picture Manager?

Classic shell gives you the old style desktop with the start button back for ease of use and bypass the MetroUI (tiles) for you....
Windows picture Viewer is for viewing only - when picture open in viewer there is an open button which give you an option to the edit in paint....
Windows Picture Manager I think may be just the old name.....

Looks as if they have merged Paint and Picture Manager
Takes time, but one gets used to it
Like some of the functionality but it's too easy to get lost
