As Dave suggested doing a Google search I searched for "Free online business management course" and found a somewhat suitable one called masterclassmanagement (google to get the address). I'm a firm believer at using the internet for increasing one's knowledge as the amount of information you can get online is pretty much endless! Or at least first try and find something online before you go and pay for a course somewhere else.

Thank you, I am visiting AgriSETA just now: I already have a 4 year diploma and I want these short courses to be familiar with the business I am doing as part time business. I am planning to do a different thing from that I did for more than 27 years , which is teaching. for a change I want to do a little more of physical job. I believe that will be good for my lite too. There is this thing they call in Afrikaans Boslang. This thing is like small trees of about 30 cm and it turns to kill grass for the livestock. what I learnt is that its medication is very expensive. I hired a Municipality plot and I complained about this killer boslang and the municipality is not willing to help me removing this boslang instead municipality wants to raise hiring fees. The policy they use is Take it or leave it. Grazing grass is so less that every year I had to buy more than necessary feeds to supplement my cattle. Thus my turnover is severely affected : What advise can I get? Adam Khathide

Short courses do have their place, typically if it's an intro course for something new and fairly simple, or something a little more advanced and specialised in a field you're already active in.

I agree with you though that many of them are being oversold as a means to get ahead. And more because it's a money spinner than it serves some greater purpose.

I'm pretty sure Department of Agriculture still have Agriculture Extension Officers. Certainly in days past they were brilliant at giving advice on land management. They were also great at "enforcing" responsible land management at a legal level. Hopefully this valuable service hasn't been discontinued.

I strongly agree that we still have extension officers who suppose to be assisting in this regard but in my area , I struggle with these fellow human beings. They will tell you that so and so promised to come and assist but years and years will be passing by. Sometimes to go to their office, it seems as if you are troubling them cause they are unable to assist. Sometimes I wonder why this office is there. in some cases people from agriculture will just go to local emerging farmers without even making them aware that they are coming to their are. Their work is just collecting their cheques every months. This is the only thing they are lucky for. Adam.
