What happens if your ECB registration has expired months ago and you are still issuing COCs?
How many pages is the current COC?
Are the older 4 and 6 page COCs still valid?

To make a mistake is human, to learn from that mistake is knowledge and knowledge is strength.
On the annexure 1 page of the certificate, top left block indicates which amendment of the regulations pertains to that certificate.
The new regulations amendment 8 certificates, are now available and as far as I know they are still 6 pages.
The 6 page document which preceded that had amendment 7 on the annexure 1 page and is still legal until March 31st, 2013
The ECA issues its members with a 4 page document which is legal as does the Gauteng Electrical Inspectorate.
As far as I know everything else is illegal

Good question!
(Although I'd recommend renewing your registration anyway. Best I can tell you can still do it via the ECB website.)
We're currently using the eCertificate system on the ECB website and it's 4 pages.
There have been so many changes, I certainly don't know for sure. But we are in South Africa, where it is easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask permission

It's a sliding scale depending on volume - I paid R750 for 500 certificates.
It's actually a great system, particularly if your handwriting isn't that hot

So you can load it onto your smart phone and log as you carry out the tests?
Is it compatable with a fluke 1653 or megger multi function testers?
Have there been any training seminars or road shows to educate the electrical contractors and the public about the new COCs, ECB registration, etc ?
The best thing is with the old paper ones if you make one little mistake you can't cross it out, ecoc's check it before you issue and its just case of retyping.
Much better.
They also have a copy at the ECB so if there is any arguments its all saved at the ECB, might stop the dodgy sods, issuing COC's without checking the installation. But i doubt it.....
I haven't tried that, but even if possible it probably isn't practical.
No. It's just a form much like the paper version that you have to edit.
Essentially you open an "installation ticket" (about the best way I can think of describing it) with the site location details, download the form (in pdf format) with those site details prepopulated, save it on your pc, edit it to put in the installation details, print and sign or digitally sign and save, then upload the completed form back to the ECB website.
It's a heck of a lot better than dealing with the preprinted paper COC's, but I still recommend using your own test worksheet and making lots of notes (and documenting with photographs) while actually doing the test. As I say to my sparkies - people may try to use the COC issued to hang you - it's the layer of supporting documentation behind it that will save you.
