State of the Nation address - 2012

    Probably JZ's best one yet.

I liked the fact that many of the areas covered came with specific detail. In that aspect the infrastructure development objectives were impressively specific, and made a lot of sense. My only concern there is what we're going to see when the bean counters start pumping out the financial side of things for these projects.

I liked the feedback on some of the major announcements he made last year.

I like the fact that he's challenging Eskom on electricity tariff increases.

I liked the asides. In fact, JZ really is pretty likeable full stop. He's so very human.

I do have my concerns though. The land reform process is clearly not going to plan, and I'm a tad concerned as to what gov might resort to to jump things along.

I also have trouble digesting the paradigm behind a speech that kicks things off on the importance of the consitution and the imperitive of a non-racial society, and then also suggests the proposed B-BBEE legislation revisions as progress.

Well the housing fund... he said all South Africans...did he really mean ALL South African's or just some South African's. Time will tell.

My opinion - The jokes were the highlight, The Mpumalanga (our province) roads dept is bankrupt - he says it will be funded - lets see.

We had no electricity in our area

It was the whole of Pretoria at first, but needless to say they fixed the problem in Central PTA quickly (I have a store in the area) as this was where the address was done from.

However the rest of us only got power late that night!

i believe if the goverment (anc) was so concerned about the people of this country they wouldnt spend so much money on themselves.

to much talk and too little action.

It was a good attempt however I was not impressed or comforted at all by what was said. I would like to see more walking of the talk. Just way too may blanks with regards issues raised in previous speeches and afraid there are too many fundamentally important issues that JZ and the current government need to take a firm hold on and sort out urgently before we should take this SOTN speech seriously.

There is an old Xhosa expression when translated says
"Let me see with my eyes what has been told to my ears"
"Nobody who has succeeded has not failed along the way"
