    Goodbye SA Post Office

So it seems our national postal service is on the verge of disappearing forever.

While it is true that I have had very little of real consequence arrive by post for a few years now, and I have quietly contemplated why I still have a P.O. Box at my local post office, I have a fundamental concern for a country that effectively has no central postal service whatsoever.

    Failure of state?

@ Dave A. State failure is the right answer.
The party of Ain't NO Consequences have no ability to run a country. They cannot even organise a piss up in a beer company!

They inherited an almost first world country where everything worked orderly. Their leaders were made millionaires by the likes of Anglo American and other companies in a bid to counter their ideology and communism. So what did they do? Pissed it out against the wall. South Africans are now poorer than ever with no concern from the political elite who live in their palaces, oblivious of load shedding, water shedding or having to pay for anything!

Unfortunately, there are still those who believe in their racist lies who can be bribed with a T-shirt and a coke.

      ' Anthony Turton :
I have often written about state failure in which I have used a simple definition. I define state failure as the inability of a unit of government (Municipality, Department, SOE etc) to adequately implement appropriate policy and strategy needed to avert a catastrophe. In other words, it's the inability to interpret data from the operational environment, and convert that into a solution, which lies at the heart of the capacity to self-correct.
State failure is the result of the inability to self-correct.
While this is happening, the coalition partners are squabbling about who will control access to the feeding trough.
We have known for years that metal thieves steal parts of bridges, pylons and even reinforcing bars in concrete pillars. We know that this cumulative loss of structural integrity ultimately results in catastrophic failure.
None of this is rocket science.
Now we have a new Minister of Electricity, whose sole job it is to protect Mafia syndicates by denying the existence of a myriad of problems. This means that we will simply see more of these cumulative failures as one thing leads to another.
The Minister will merely shift the blame to someone else and never accept responsibility. Escom will blame the Municipality who will blame thieves or the private sector for buying scrap metal. This action short circuits the ability to self-correct. How can one correct something that is denied? If it doesn't exist it can't be fixed.
Watch the water supply and sewage problems arise from this event. Watch the cold chain become compromised as food security is eroded one power failure at a time.
State failure is the result of the inability of government to self correct. It's that simple.
The problem can't be fixed by the same team that caused it. This is why state failure ripples across the economy, like the microscopic cracks caused by metal fatigue, until the wing of the aeroplane can flex no more and it breaks off.
We are living through a slow onset disaster, with a known outcome, but there will be lots of obfuscation before the final destination is reached.'

I am not surprised. To date I still have not received an invoice for my 2 post boxes. I can only renew the Post Box at each respective Post Office in cash.
Since I hardly receive any mail, I am wondering if I should even inquire the amounts and send someone to pay on my behalf.
Is an invoice not the most important financial asset a company has, as this is a manner of generating income?

Listened to an radio interview some time back on the local radio, the new CEO stated that 60% of the income from the Post Office goes to wages. How on earth can this be sustainable, not withstanding outstanding 4.4 billion creditors such as rent, vehicles leases and other typical running expenses. There was also a request for a financial bail out from the finance dept for and I stand here to be corrected of 8 billion.
Adding fuel to the fire are the unions demanding an increase and threatening strikes to achieve their request.

A mate of mine decided to Test the postal service at the end of last year and send Christmas cards by post from PE
He posted them on 14th Nov

Sent 2 cards PE to PE - so far 1 arrived ( 10th Jan )
          Sent 6 PE to KZN /Durban - 3 arrived ( 10th Jan /30 Jan/ 21 Feb )
          Sent 2 PE to Aus /UK - 0 arrived

Out of 10 sent so far only 4 have arrived -

Under a 50% success rate on delivery and a complete failure on the promised 3 day delivery service in SA and a 10 day delivery service overseas

This is why people use private courier companies. The Post Office has no relevance any more. My PO Box number is just an item on my letter head and is never used . Almost all government services have been substituted by private initiatives. The party of Ain't No Consequences who wants to centralise power and control are actually losing everything to private enterprise. Their old-fasioned socialist policies are not working and is appears to being run by Pres Doolittle, MR Knofracall, Mr Aintme, Mrs Flyallover, Mr Steelsumore and some other cronies who are in it for their own pockets only.

What they don't realise is that the country belongs to the People who are slowly taking back what has been stolen from them. Public outcry and pressure stopped the JHB toll fiasco, declared BEE procurement policies unconstitutional, overturned the decision to allow Eskom not to report on wasteful expenditure, forced them to investigate the Thabo Bester case etc etc. We have substituted SAPS with private security, Railways with trucks, buses with taxis, and Eskom with solar and wind power. Soon we will be able to replace government as well???

Watching the proceedings of the Bester case (on eNCA) is an eye opener as to the rot that is present in this administration. Let your voice (and Vote) be heard. You have a duty!

One "post office product" that is still working pretty much as well as it ever has is Docex. It was a private initiative that was bought by the SA Post Office many years ago.
              And it still works brilliantly.

I'll be sad to see that go.
