    State of the Nation

I wonder how many people are watching the address purely to see what happens.
    So far...most intriguing..

I certainly made a conscious decision I was going to watch it, come what may.

The writing was on the wall that there was going to be a testing moment in the development of democracy in SA. The only question was exactly how events would unfold.

Simon Dingle's tweet summarises this nicely:

"A summary of the president's SONA address:

          - Fuck freedom.
          - Fuck democracy.
          - Fuck foreigners.
          - Basically, just fuck you South Africa."

EWN apologised for the cartoon but a lot more could be added now.

I was left with a few thoughts:

If some of the roles were reversed, how would the outcome have differed? If the EFF had the majority and the ANC the minority, would:
              1 The ANC behave similarly?
2 Would the EFF have pulled in the bouncers?

I am in no doubt that the answer in 1 above would be "yes"; they have demonstrated far worse behavior when they seem to not be getting their own way.
The second question ... I don't know, but I know that it bothers me, because the slippery slope is getting increasingly steep.

A role reversal between the DA and the ANC would be equally interesting. I know exactly how the ANC would have behaved, but it again bothers me that I don't know how the DA might have, given that type of provocation.

In a way the events played into zoomer's hands. I for one have very little idea what he said; the content of the address hardly played any role. That which I did hear was drivel. It turned into a mini-mini-mini budget speech, while the REAL state of the nation was a huge mammoth in the room.

The EFF are playing the game the ANC way, what else did you expect, I have always said Julius is not stupid and he is proving it every day.

This was overheard at the speaker's podium when the cellphone signal was blocked at the SONA.

In Davos JZ invited foreigners to invest in SA, then last night he announced the banning of foreign land ownership.

If I was EFF I would have had someone stand up every 5 minutes and interrupt.

I wonder if what happened at the SONA and what is happening in SA generally can really be understood by a liberal?

Because you see a liberal may believe in evolution and genetics and its effect on the entire human body, but he believes that this does not apply to the human brain.

                        Fascinating, really it is.

Sociology, anthropology and psychology all follow suite including this “no effect on the brain” principle.

The truth, the unvarnished truth, is far too stressful a paradigm for many, it seems, so the liberal takes the easy way out because it makes him feel good like a child playing pretend and so he interacts with a world that does not exist, trying to build better worlds based on his self imposed hard print fallacies.

Ah...but you need to understand that when pigs rule the farmyard there is no intellect superior to that of the pig. Pigs continuously point out that "common sense" shows that those claiming to be more intelligent are clearly insane for the brain of the pig is the biggest brain in the universe...

The best part of it was the big chief who kept laughing as he spoke, like it was a joke.

We all know it is a joke and there is nothing you or anyone else is going to do about it.
