    Guess you popped in for a visit today?

    We had a strange visitor in our garden today - can't figure out what it is. Stork or crane?

    Why is your pool empty? Thought you'd be swimming by now in Durban.

        No clue but it wasn't camera shy; I don't know I don't think it is at home in Durban, I think it would live closer to fresh water as its beak points to small prey and stature suggest the hunting grounds to be shallow.

        There is no webbing so it is probably not a swimmer. I think show your pictures to a bird expert. I think they might find it interesting. I never saw one before myself... I will also have a look in my books for some answers.

            I wasn't as close to the bird as it seems - I was using a zoom lens and I was at least 10 metres away from it. We saw it eating a frog before I got my camera out.

              Hi Neville, This looks like a Woolly necked stork. Very distinctive markings in your 1st photograph.
