    Bob Woolmer has died

In very sad news, Bob Woolmer has died in hospital after being found unconscious in his hotel room.

At the moment it is not clear what happened that led to his death. I'm hoping that things become clearer soon. That is now the second death of the World Cup, after Bangladesh lost a player in a road accident.

It is sad news indeed. I was somewhat shocked - although the shock of Pakistan losing to Ireland might have had something to do with it. Bob was looking very miserable.

A weekend of upsets at the Cricket World Cup in more ways than one.

The full statement read: "At the press conference earlier today [Tuesday] we reported that the cause of death was inconclusive. Having met with the pathologist, other medical personnel and investigators, there is now sufficient information to continue a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Woolmer, which we are now treating as suspicious.

Asked directly if Jamaica police were pursuing a murder investigation, Shield said: "No, we are not saying that."

And in a third World Cup related death, former Irish Cricket Union president Bob Kerr died of a suspected heart attack at the World Cup.

In a TV interview, Jonty Rhodes referred to Woolmer's death and also to Hansie Cronje. Rumour mills are now suggesting a gambling dimension - surely not?

I really hope not, it would be an even sadder event if it was somehow linked to gambling.

Jamaican police have now confirmed that Bob Woolmer was murdered.

Pakistan's cricket coach Bob Woolmer was murdered in his hotel room on Sunday after the team's World Cup shock defeat to Ireland, Jamaican police say.

A post-mortem examination established that the former England player had died as a result of "manual strangulation", police Commissioner Lucius Thomas said.

It's moments like these that remind me of the saying
It isn't a matter of life and death - It's more important than that.
