Anywhere where I may find flexible drill bits?

    Hi there!

My company is in need of flexible drill bits. Basically they consist of a regular drill bit mounted to a flexible shaft. They are available as an off-the-shelf item from a number of suppliers in North America, but none that I have been able to find in South Africa. The thing is, I don't see why there wouldn't be a single supplier here as it's not that specialised a product.

Does anybody have any thoughts on where I may find such a thing?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks.

Have seen them at Mica and Build-it -- typically used as an attachment on a Dremel ( or similar ) engraver tool.

He's not talking about a flexible extension with a chuck on the end. These bits have a long thin flexible shank that is thinner than the bit itself.

I don't think you get them in South Africa. I've certainly never seen them locally.

You're right adrianh, the bits are attached to a long flexible shank that is indeed thinner than the bit. I have come across plenty examples of flexible drive shafts/extensions but not a trace of a flexible drill bit.

I was beginning to fear that they aren't available locally at all but it seems to be the case.
