Hi Everyone
As some of you probably know I have been in Cape Town the past couple of weeks. I thought it would be interesting to talk about the city and how I experienced it after 14 years since my last visit and a typical Gautenger.
At first glance Cape Town is impressive in many ways. It is cleaner absolutely beautiful and generally at a much slower pace than Gauteng. But there are a few things that continue to amaze me everyday I spent here.
Metro Police
It is very difficult not to miss the Metro police presence all over Cape Town, they are generally much more visible than the tree sitters in Gauteng, but they are also much harder on petty crime. They seem to be more focussed on enforcing law and I haven't seen a single manned camera yet, but I am still looking. It seems like speed prosecution are mostly automated through fixed camera positions.
Cleaner
I do not know if it is just the wind blowing all the rubish away, but CT is generally much cleaner than Gauteng.
Less Crime
There is no doubt that CT has a lot less crime than Gauteng, but I can say with fair accuracy that it is not surprising given the Metro Police and to a lesser amount also the SAPS visibility in and around CT.
Houses
One of the first things I noticed about CT is the open front of the majority of houses here. Unlike Gauteng where all houses have 10ft walls or palisades around it. It gives the city a welcome feeling to it.
Friendly
People here are friendly and helpful.
State of the roads and infrastructure
The state of the roads are generally much better than in Gauteng. It seems like the city and its surrounding areas are truly well managed, as infrastructure are being maintained much better than in Gauteng.
Unemployment
One of the shocking things about CT is the number of unemployed people that are living here. During my discussions with people in Kayalicha, Langa and other poor areas it is also surprising how many of them come from Gauteng and Limpopo without any explanation as to why they came to CT. This baffles my mind as they are clearly poor and unemployed.
Illegal electricity connections
I am still planning to take pictures of this but the number of illegal connections are just shocking! This is something you should see to believe.
In general the wind sucks big time but this is a place that is busy crawling under my skin, so do not be surprised if my family joins me in CT one of these days, but I will remain a Blue Bull supporter
