    The card game of Bridge

    Hello all,

So have recently got some White friends where i moved too. And they gather one evening, and include me.
They are playing a rather convoluted card game they call Bridge. But even before playing a single card we are doing rounds of "bidding" for a "contract". It is like a game inside a game if am making sense to you. But the pre-game is even harder to understand than the actual game. I am embarrassing myself even if i try as best as i can.
Has anyone have this happen to you also? And do you know any online resource where i can learn so i can join this group SUCCESSFULLY.

    Thx.

    Hi John,

Had a similar experience once - the group tried to teach me, but it did seem very convoluted and made me feel stupid.

You may find this link helpful as to the basics.

I have not played bridge in decades, and have forgotten many factors of it.
However the opening bids is a way in which you can determine what hands your partner and opposing players are holding. You have to listen very carefully to what is said, as there is going to be information bandied around as each player makes a bid. If you have a strong hand, but you are not sure if your partner has cards to support, then your bid and his reply are very important to let each other know what you have, and this will influence which cards are played, sometimes a '2' can become a trump card if there are no trumps left in the game, and there are no other higher cards of the same suit, knowing what your partner holds and what the opposition is bidding gives a very good clue.

Thank you guyz. It actually is beginning to make sense. most important seems to stay sober, focus on the information, and plan the play CAREFULLY. Am also finding there is much information in what is not being said.
