Electrical Wiring Course / Electricians course part time

    Hi all,

Maybe someone can be of assistance.

South Africa does not provide much information in terms of literature for Electrical Wiring and DIY in the house for electrical. I am aware of the fact that this type of work should only be done by qualified electricians and yes this does make sense.

I would say from a DIY perspective I can do many things. From electronics, to plumbing, basic electrical, wood working and metal work. These tasks are mostly my hobbies, I am a Software Engineer by trade and do electronics projects from time to time.

Given this background, I would like to do and electricians course on weekends if possible. I don't want this to be my day job, but have enough to do my own work and projects. Even if it means Electrician signing off at the end of the day. So ideally I would like to be trained in doing the job the right way, Safety and quality.....

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

By not following the OHSA you run the risk of insurance not paying out in the event of a problem
Anybody signing off for you who was not in general control will more than likely be a fly by night and the COC will not be worth the paper it is written on - He will also not bother / or incapable of checking to see if it is correct

Thank you GCE for your input. I totally agree with you in this case and respect the rules and safety.

I have a Master Electrician, old school that has done work for me for many years and believe me he will give a hard time if I did anything without him. He will make me rip it out even if I am the client. Kudo's to electricians that keep the code.

Okay so the other part of my question remains. How can I do the course part time and become and electrician and be qualified to my own work?

Thanks again for everyone patience with my endless questions.
