So the western Cape is planning to bleed its residents dry
Anone know when the councils will be authourised to start cutting servcies for non paying residents? They havent been alowed to cut services since the beginning of lockdown ... just imagine how much money is owning to the councils since March last year.
I got a R30 K bill from the council in one month (actual ... not estimated)

I think the worst hit is going to be the people who rent properties to non-payers. As far as I know the owners were not allowed to get rid of them yet the owners are still liable for the fees. Of course the same is true for those who own buildings and rent to businesses - the businesse couldn't earn a living yet the owner is still liable. The courts are going to be very very very busy when the lockdown finally ends - If it ever does given the fallout when it does.
I wonder what the various tariffs are in those different areas to start with - the percentage increases may be misleading given "possible" different current values.
As per Derlyn's link and based on residential tariffs, it looks like Jhb has the best rate for electricity at the moment at R1.98 / KWh, Durban at R2.09 and Cape Town at R2.38 (fine print applies).
I just don't get how the morons think that it is OK to do this now - under the current circumstance....as is the man in the street doesn't have enough problems as is!

My brother
We may have disagreed on other things .....
But this is one issue I think we all agree on.
Like Eugene Terreblanche said during his last televised interview ....... " a cow can be milked to death "
Most people thought he was an idiot, but
We were without water for the whole day maybe because of a burst pipe somewhere. Failing infrastructure.
Now we are in load shedding since 8 pm. Failing Escom infrastructure.
All this because we are being ruled by pirates. ...and the stupid people keep voting for them!
If you keep doing the same thing over and over, you will keep getting the same results.
If you want change, you have to try doing something differently, like voting the pirates out of power.
The solution is supposed to be your vote at the upcoming municipal elections...
Make sure you vote.
Yes, I know it might seem it doesn't make a difference in some (or even most) instances. But if you don't vote, there is no chance your vote might matter.
And every now and then it does matter.
Apart from that - activism I guess. It is hard to argue against the fact that the world is significantly influenced by the noisy few.
I've been living in Cape Town over 20 years and I think that the DA SUX - They are no better, they don't care either and they do whatever they want.
The idea of voting for the least-worst doesn't work because they are still bad and you still suffer - you choose to get hit with a 2x4inch or a 50x100mm....

At least we have to DO something and stop sitting on our arses. Only chickens achieve anything by sitting on their backsides. Vote for an independent, vote for the party of your choice, but please vote for change. The impasse or status quo is not sustainable and the current government is leading us into the abyss.
The majority of the people hate the current government and their corrupt leaders, so stand up and let your voice be heard.
I wondered why the grass on the verge was being cut for the first time this year ... and some of the potholes have yellow paint lines around them (been like that for 3 months ... but hey at least someone is taking note) I hope they are repaired before the elections.

You should try visiting other provinces around the country which aren't run by the DA and see what it is like ... Wen we did our road trip ... crossing into the cape was like going into a different country.

That's a fair comment. I don't get out much. I suppose we judge based on what we have vs what we expect....rather than what we have vs what others have.
