Geyser only heats water during the day

    Hi all.

This week we had a brand new Kwikot 600 dual 150Lt geyser installed, it is wall mounted outside the house. Now my issue is that during the hours of around 6AM to 9AM the water is only luke warm despite the fact that i myself set the thermostat to about 60c during the afternoon and early evening the water is hot. What could the possible causes for this be?

    Thanks in advance.

Its brand new. If its not working properly its under warranty. Call the installer back, simple. BTW way I rebranded KWIKOT to KWIKRAP, they often do not even survive the now reduced 3y warranty. I would never ever install a KWIKRAP in my house.

If you have a geyser timer it might not be set to the right times...

Are any municipalities actively using ripple relays for demand side management? I'm not sure TBH. Also maybe it has a timer that's faulty or not correctly set.

        Hi guys.

Thanks for the replies, theres definitely no timer in the circuit, as far as the ripple relay how do i determine if there is one?

Ripple relay is a long shot. If there is one it would be installed either in the DB or in a 100x100mm box in the DB close vicinity. I'd suggest phone your electricity supplier, they should be able to tell you off hand if they use them.

No, Geyser can heat water at any point of the day as it works on electricity. But yes if you are talking about solar geyser then the case will be different. It might only work only during the daytime.

I am facing the same issue ever since i converted my old natural gas heater to electric heater. It seems you have to keep them heating water all night to get hot water in the morning.

Not sure what you mean by all night to heat the water.
What size is the geyser, 100L, 150L, 200L?
                  What size element, 500W, 1Kw, 2Kw, 3Kw?

Maybe you have a leak on the outgoing hot water side.
Maybe you need a geyser blanket to conserve the heated water in the geyser
Maybe you need to clad the incoming water supply and the hot water pipes.

I mean that is my first experience in electric heater. The capacity is 150L and it use to be a Natural gas heater which we were using from the last 9 years. It got damaged because of an incident and the person we hired to fix it gave us option that he can convert it to an electric geyser which we take now it is not performing as well as it use to be.

The difference between and electric based geyser, and a gas based geyser is that the gas based system, is a heat on demand, where as the electric geyser is that the water is maintained at a value on a continuous basis..
In other words, with the gas based water heater, only when you start using the water, does the gas through the flow/pressure switch, trigger the gas burner to heat the water as it travels through the heating coil.
When you close the tap, the gas trigger switches the burner off.
Advantages of this is that you only use the gas when you use the water.
Disadvantages, depending on the coil size and burner, if the incoming water is very low temperature, like in winter, then the amount of energy transferred from the burner to the water may not be sufficient to have a comfortable shower. Also if the flow rate is too high, such as two people showering, or more than one source of use, then the flow will reduce the temperature that the gas burner can transfer to the water. This is more noticeable in winter where users want a higher temperature to overcome the lower ambient temperature during showering.

With respect to an electric geyser, the element basically heats up the 150L of water during a heating cycle, and depending on the size of the element, and the start temperature, it may take between 40 minutes to an hour to heat up the water to approximately 60 degrees centigrade, or whatever the thermostat has been set on. Irrespective of the water demand, the temperature of consumption will remain constant until almost all of the heated water is consumed in one go. Electric Geysers have been designed to force all the hot water to the outlet. However if you stop at any time and wait too long, then the incoming cold water will mix with the hot water and drop the temperature, which will then require the element to reheat the water before consumption again. The thermostat maintains the water at the maximum setting 24/7.
Disadvantages is the consumption of electricity during periods that the hot water is not used and the thermostat maintains the water temperature. To reduce this consumption, geyser timers are used to synchronise the water heating to your hot water usage times.

I suspect that your lifestyle must be adapted to suite the type of water heating system that you have.

Nelson Mandela Bay has for many years. Can't say if they activate it though.
