Company name change - what to do regarding vehicle documents?

    Hi All,

I did first search the site for any info, and while there are many threads about vehicle documents, there doesn't seem to be a post for what I am looking for.....

Our company recently changed from a CC to a (Pty) Ltd. so only that part of our name changed, naturally we got new CK docs etc.

We have vehicles in our company name and we obviously need to change the details at the licence department, but one person at Durban Motor Licensing department told me that we just need to complete change of ownership forms (Form NCO) and then register the vehicle in the new company name (Form RLV). Another person said we need to complete the Application and notice in respect of business register number (Form ABR), and a different person over the phone said that we would need to complete the Notification of change of address or particulars of person or organisation (Form NCP).

Which forms do we need to complete?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

You should have a CoR18.3 from the CIPC that confirms the conversion from a cc to a pty ltd? That is proof that the entity only changed it's manner of incorporation and quite honestly I would preserve my sanity and do nothing.

Thanks. We do have the CoR18.3 from the CIPC. However, we need to renew the vehicle license and provide company details and proof of address etc, which is all under the new (Pty) Ltd. name and on the license department system, the vehicle is still under the old CC name.

TDon, it may not be right, but I have always just renewed the licence because that was before we had to provide FICA for the address. Have you tried adding the CoR18.3 with the address docs? (I see a straight jacket coming)

Also look at page 2 "Effect of conversion" on the Guidance note from CIPCGuidanceNote7of2011.pdf

So are you saying that I should follow the normal licence renewal process and then just add the CoR18.3 when I hand over the address docs?

I mean, suggesting, are you suggesting I do that?

I know with licencing and renewals etc all the documents have to be perfect, otherwise you get sent away and have to try all over again the next day.

I'm curious as to how this one played out in the end.

Ultimately the main bullet to dodge would be for it to be deemed a transfer of ownership.
