Dog Food

Good day

I hope someone can help me a bit here.

We have a 11 month old Staffie.
He is currently on Hills science plan,but does not want to eat the food anymore(he loves eating).If we give him stuff with it he might eat a bit.

We have been thinking of changing him over to other brands.
People have said we need to put him on Omega,Jock or Montego Karoo.

I have tried reading up on these brands,but are not sure what to choose,especially about the Montego (a lot of bad reviews).

Can someone please help me out here.

We have a chow and is also on Hills - he was on the normal stuff that we mixed with tinned dog food meat and subsequently changed. The food is very expensive but seems to be so much better for him. We don't mix anything - just give him the biscuits. I must say that he does not rush to the food to eat and tends to nibble on it the whole night and by the morning it is finished. We have never looked back. So what Im trying to say here is does your dog not perhaps not want to eat straight away, but will perhaps get back to it.

PS Don't overfeed him with Hills.

My vet says Jock is full of junk. But, my dogs absolutely love it, never have the slops, way less volume and way less stench.

We have cats. So Totally different species I know.

But we feed them Acana and Orijen switches between the two.

Maybe they have dog food as well.

I have a 6 month old Staffie. Been on the same food since I got her and she loves it. I will send the exact description but I think its a Royal Canine, the blue packet.

Will let you know when I get home, never had a hassle with her eating.

Hi again. Its the Royal Canine Maxi Junior. Its the large dog range but its for puppies up to 15 months old.

Like I said she eats very well on it.

If a dog seems to have a lower than normal apatite there might be something wrong, especially if it is over a few days and his behavior is also off. So just be careful it may not be the food.

I switch pellet brands every few weeks since I was told long ago that some foods lack or have too much of certain nutrients so by switching you make sure they don't have too much or too little of any particular nutrient. I also feed my two Jacks one shared can a night (again switching brands). I also buy them bones from the butchery (which always have a bit of raw meat on them) to make sure they getting everything they need.

I am not a dog nutritionist so please don't take my advice too seriously, but it seems to work for me.

I would would defianetly recommend pro balance from spar .My pitbull is a picky eater plus he breaks out in a horrible rash wen he eats most other brands but spar pro balance is the best.

I know this is an old thread but as Pmbguy says, if a dog's not eating well it could be a symptom of something else so maybe a vet visit would be good.

My pitbull isn't a picky eater by any means but he's very prone to allergies and is on daily medication for itchy skin. We've tried just about every food on the market including the anti allergy types and Omega is one of the best for him.
