    Help fixing my pool..

    My pool is fibreglass covered cement - and has a very small 1mm or so crack around the weir.

    What would be the best to fix it with - I am thinking ether fiberglass (never used it before though - would I need to prep the surface at all?), marine silicone (not sure how long it would last) and my favourite - 2 part bostic epoxy.

    Kind of think the epoxy would be best - any ideas?

      Is the crack actually in the fiberglass or is it where the weir seals against it? Maybe a few photos?

          If the crack is ONLY through the fibreglass, fix it with fibreglass. Empty pool, make sure all is dry and clean and fix with fibreglass. If however the water has gone inbetween the fibreglass and cement, it is another story all together...

              The crack is between the fiberglass and the plastic weir. Look like, to keep it tidy, they did not do a great job of overlapping the fiberglass against the weir. So I probably shouldn't say the fiberglass is cracked, more like a crack has opened between the fiberglass and the plastic weir.

                  A little 'Pratleys Putty' (not the quickset) forced in firmly around between the fibreglass and the weir flange, smooth with your fingers and 'hey presto', the Pratleys will soon harden under the water

                      Cheers all. Looked it up and it seems many boat builders have no problem mixing epoxy and fiberglass - I was worried about it cracking - but my pool will flex a lot less than a small boat. It also makes a good bond with the fiberglass and liquid enough to get into the crack. Might pull out the Dremel and rough up the sides a little bit and clean out the crack.

                      But thanks for all the input!

                          Just in case anyone searches about fixing small cracks in fiberglass...

                          Epoxy works well - I am guessing up to around 3mm - anything wider and I think you will need to fiberglass. Or wynn did mention Pratleys putty - not sure myself on that one - but it would close wider gaps.

                          If I have problems down the line I will update.

                              A product that works really well, and you can even apply it underwater, is Aquamend. It is glass reinforced epoxy. Costs about R85.00 and is a two part sausage that mixes and performs exactly as it claims to.
